We have an entire wall full of board games. We are a gaming family, and that shows up in my Instagram feed. I love to use games to teach unique topics. I also sneak several of our board games into our homeschool geography lessons to teach about that. These are my 10 favorite geography games to play.
10 great geography games to give (presented in no particular order)
- 10 Days in Europe* (if the Amazon price is bad, check out 10 Days in Europe on Rainbow Resource)- this is a fun combination of card management and geography, I plan to eventually get the whole series (Asia, Africa, etc) Full review of 10 Days in Europe
2. Cardline Globetrotter*- a fun quick game that can last from 15 minutes to 30 minutes. I like the variety of ways to play and its’ portability. Full review of Cardline Globetrotter
3. Civitas*- Uno with Governments, I love playing this with a group (stay tuned I’ve got a giveaway at the bottom). Full review of Civitas
4. Scrambled States of America*- This is the only game on this list that we do not own and regularly play. For whatever reason it did not click with our family despite having lots of people rave about the game. Don’t hate me.
5. Destination USA– similar in concept to 10 Days series for movement, but the way you win is totally different. Full review of Destination USA
6. Ticket to Ride– we don’t own this one, but play it with friends. It’s similar to our game Transamerica which is sadly out of print. But since our regular gaming friends own it, I’ve never bought it. If your family likes this game there are several expansions and variations.
7. Sequence States and Capitals– So, I just learned they have a Sequence version like this, and now I want it. We’ve played the normal Sequence game, and it’s lots of fun.
8. Risk– I’ll confess I hate Risk. However my boys love to play the electronic version. I’ve never played the board game version with them because I have bad memories of playing my brother. I think the board game was thrown. But, it’s great for learning about defensible land…. Or so I learned when Sean took Australia….
9. Great States– This has been recommended to me for a geography game. I like its portability
10. Geopuzzles– Ok Geopuzzles are not a geography game, but my kids love to put them together, and there is much negotiation as to who will put what piece in. I used to have two sets of Africa because I originally only bought Africa, but I ended up buying the whole set. I gave Africa away recently to another family. If you’re at all interested I’d save up and buy the 6 puzzle set, it’s worth the money. Ideas to use geography puzzles in your homeschool
I’m also joining up with the ladies from iHomeschool Network for even more Gift giving ideas!
Some great games here. One geography game that I still want to find is something I played once with friends and really liked. It was sort of world traveling game, but I have no idea how it was called, it was quite far ago. Our favorite geography game is definitely Ticket to Ride!
That sounds interesting.
