10 June Science Ideas for Kids

May 25, 2014 Ticia 7 Comments

I don’t know about you, but I have a hard time believing this is the last week of May, and it’s almost time for June.  There weren’t as many posts linked up this month, I can tell people are starting to wind down their science ideas and dream of fun non-school type things, so I tried to give you some fun Summer science ideas for kids.

10 June Science Ideas

Category pictures lead to science pinterest boards in that subject area. Each of those boards has at least 100 more ideas for you to try out this month.

Life Science for kids

zoology for kids

I have to admit I think of ants at summertime, because they come to picnics, and over at Gift of Curiosity, she’s got a great experiment to see what food ants eat.

Angellic Scalliwags shared the start of their unit on Microbes and Fungus.  I love all of their project based learning, and many of these projects seem like an engaging way to keep kids learning while they’re on summer break.

Fantastic Five shared another fun project that requires a 2 liter bottle and balloons.  My kids are hooked the minute you bring in balloons, I only wish she’d shared this respiratory anatomy activity back when we were studying the lungs.

Astronomy and Earth science for kids

Earth Science

Why not do some experiments and see what is the best type of mud brick to make?  Planet Smartypants came up with a great child led experiment.  After playing in the mud, you can get out the hose and clean off.

Chemistry and Physics science for kids

Things that go BOOM

If you’re looking for a way to cool off and learn a bit of science at the same time (displacement theory), try out these aluminum foil boats from Life with Moore Babies.

This is another great get messy outside activity (and maybe a little wet) as you look at the science behind the disappearing color.

Solo Gratia Mom shared a fun series of experiments to see how heat moves.  This would pair really well with:

Navigating by Joy’s post about the science of how candles burn (I learned a lot reading these two posts).

General Science for kids

Over at Planet Smarty she shared two great posts this month for Spring Science and Summer Science.  Pick the science your weather matches, or mix it up and try a bunch of them.

Now link up your SCIENCE posts, new and old, and then visit some of the other posts linked up and say hi. I’m going to be pinning, commenting, FBing or tweeting all of the posts linked up as the week goes by. At the end of the month I’m going to feature the best posts linked up.

Make sure to include a link back to my blog so people can come back from your post to see what others have done.  By linking you are agreeing I can feature your posts in a round up post later (I may use a picture to feature, but will link back).

Science kind of fell to the back burner this year for us; they never do much in kindergarten anyhow. But my kids enjoy it, so I actually intend on doing more through the summer! lol Thanks for featuring our foil boats!

Something about summer screams science to me. I don’t know if it’s nature, or that we can take the mess outside, or the restless kids looking for something fun to do…but summertime and science seem to be made for each other.

    I agree – summer + science = a natural partnership 🙂

Great round up. Science is pretty much reading here. We don’t do enough experiments. I was thinking today about doing Camp-At-Home with the kids and doing a week of cooking camp, a week of science experiments camp, etc. It wouldn’t be as extensive as a real camp, but it would get us doing fun activities together before or after our time in the swimming pool.

I am really hoping to do more science in summer… and then I ask myself when exactly I will have more time to do them. Time will tell! Thanks for sharing my posts!
