12 Spies bookmark craft
I was searching for a fun craft to do with my Sunday School class this Sunday. We’re finishing up our Exodus Unit with the 12 Spies lesson, and all of the crafts I could think of would not be popular with my current class, and then I saw a 12 spies bookmark craft on Pinterest, and knew what I had to do.

My inspiration for the 12 Spies bookmark craft
I want to give credit to Crafting the Word of God’s great idea, and since I’m changing it to use paint, my class loves painting, I want you to go see theirs, especially since they have templates for you.
I’m freehanding all four craft.
Supplies for 12 Spies bookmark craft
cardstock, purple or green paint, green construction paper or cardstock, letter stickers, or magazines (for my sample I’m using magazines), optional purple construction paper (the pack I linked to is all the colors) or purple cardstock
Making the bookmark
I cut the sheets of cardstock into 2.5-inch strips to prepare it ahead of time. It makes life easier if that is pre-made. I also cut the green construction paper into 3-inch squares, and planned to give each kid a few to make their leaves. Finally, I poured some paint onto a paper plate to make a paint pallette.
Make fingerprints to create the grapes. Have fun creating the shape of the grapes.
Cut out leaves. Decide if you want your leaves to go off the edge, and arrange them in a design you like the look of.
Add the word trust to the bookmark either using letter stickers or magazine cut-outs. I also briefly considered making jello stickers (I should make a separate post for that project). More on that word trust later.
Now this is the optional part, and I’m not sure if I’ll do it with my Sunday School kids, because I fee like I would like the way it looks, but most of them would find it annoying. Since the craft is mostly optional, I probably won’t have them do this part.
Glue your bookmark down onto the purple cardstock and then carefully cut around the cardstock to create a unique shaped bookmark.
I really like the idea of making bookmarks for Bible crafts, and now I’m thinking what other crafts I could add in.
Oh! Battle of Jericho! Promises kept, oh all the brainstorming now.
Why trust on this bookmark?
That’s what I loved about this craft. I admit I partially picked it because you can let the kids have fun painting, but I also picked the craft because the Israelites lacked trust.
The spies went into Canaan and saw the people there and said, “Giants!” They saw the big cities and said, “Scary!”
Twelve spies came back, and ten said, “They’re too big! Their cities are too well-defended. We can’t do it!”
We don’t remember the names of those ten.
Joshua and Caleb said, “We can trust the God who kept His promises. Look at all the ways God has helped us. Trust what God has done and let’s go take the land He promised us.”
Notice, I knew the names of Joshua and Caleb without looking them up. We remembered the names of the two men who trusted God.
This bookmark is a reminder of what God has done for us, and that we can trust Him.
