7th grade book and a movie reading

7th grade books made into movies

I love to read. At some point in middle school, I got it into my head that I needed to read all the classics or at least the classics I thought were what I should read. Now many of these were books made into movies, like Little Princess. So when I set about putting together my list of 7th-grade books made into movies, I was quite amused to see just how many of these I read while in junior high.

I want to impose some amount of order on these books, but looking over the lists, and going back to that introduction there are an astonishingly large number of these over 100 years old and probably all of them would be classified as classics.

Very important note, I have all of my books made into a movie lists made into bookmarks. You can buy them, OR you can join my newsletter and get a coupon to get it for free!

I just remade the bookmarks to be in the same order as these lists… It makes it easier when I update these posts

Over 100 years old classic 7th-grade books made into movies

Huh, looking around I’ve changed the books on the 7th-grade books made into movies list from when I first wrote my massive list. There are a few new books on here that weren’t on it before. Interesting…

7th grade book and a movie reading
  1. Pinocchio movie – This was one of the classics I was not able to finish. It was just so incredibly weird. I should try it again as an adult.
  2. Little Princess     movie (Little Princess book club)
  3. Around the World in 80 Days     movie    Jackie Chan movie (Around the World in 80 Days book club)
  4. Tom Sawyer    movie (Tom Sawyer book club)
  5. A Christmas Carol– there are more versions of this book made into a movie than I can count, but I’m partial to the Muppet Christmas Carol (Christmas Carol book club)
  6. Anne of Green Gables     movie (Anne of Green Gables book club)
  7. Journey to the Center of the Earth     movie (Journey to the Center of the Earth book club)
  8. King Arthur movie Disney Sword in the Stone movie (I could make an entire post on King Arthur movies) (King Arthur book club)
  9. Robin Hood movie Disney Robin Hood (another that could have an entire post of Robin Hood movies) Robin Hood book club
  10. Little Women movie another Little Women movie (Little Women book club)
  11. Prince and the Pauper movie (Prince and the Pauper book club)

Clearly, I have some writing to do because I thought I had written up those books.

Classic 7th-grade books made into movies (less than 100 years old)

7th grade books made into movies great for low interest readers
  1. Devil’s Arithmetic movie
  2. The Hobbit– We basically redid our Lord of the Ring snacks when we did the movie marathon
  3. Mary Poppins– This would be the only other book I broke my rule on and let the kids watch the movie (oh wait, I also did for Bedknobs and Broomsticks, but that book is so different from the movie and very weird) (Mary Poppins book club)
  4. Watership Down     movie – this book is ever so slightly a lot disturbing if you really think about it. I don’t recommend it for kids if they have problems with animal cruelty
  5. Princess Bride– It is inconceivable that you have not read this book.  Also, I love this movie.  It’s one of the rare times I broke my rule about reading the book before seeing the movie. (Princess Bride book club)
  6. Neverending Story movie

Two THREE more 7th-grade books made into movies that aren’t really classics

At what point is a book a classic? Princess Diaries was made into a movie 20 years ago. I think Jeff and I saw it on a date. That makes the book more than 20 years old. The Artist read it for a Princess Diaries book club a few years ago.

War with Grandpa is not a classic as practically no one talks about it, but it looks like it could be a fun book to read. When I was grabbing my giant stack of books and movies from the library both of them were checked out… War with Grandpa movie.

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children came out as a movie several years after I first made my book list, and then we read it in 9th grade as a Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children book club.

  1. Ooh, neat list! Did you know that there are actually a ton of Princess Diaries books? They get quite a bit different from the movies…but that is a movie that has aged really well.

I read SO many classics as a middle schooler. Actually, I was at a school that wasn’t really much of a school so I used to go to each class just to get a library pass and then I would go to the library and read or sometimes play around with the graphics computer program, leaving at the end of the period to get a new library pass from my next class. I went to P.E., band, and occasionally math and science, but the rest of the day I pretty much spent in the library because honestly nothing was happening in English and Social Studies most days. I actually learned a lot that year, but most of it wasn’t in class.
