Aaaaannnndddd we’ve finished history for this year!

On Tuesday we had a major accomplishment.

MOH1

See this book, this much tattered and beleaguered book?  We finished it.  We may have cheated a little bit, and not actually read 5 of the last lessons of MOH1 (affiliate link, they were John the Baptist, and several on Jesus), opting instead to watch The Bible: The Epic Miniseries (affiliate link).

But we finished. DONE.  DONE. DONE.  Of course it’ll still show up here on the blog because I still have 10 or so posts I want to write.  But one of them is this post.

See that ^^^^^^^^^, that is way too many posts to write.  I fear the same thing might happen to these posts as happened the Vietnam War posts from last year, and my 60s posts.  I’ll lose interest. in favor of the big new thing.

box of Bright Ideas Press goodies

Look at these goodies that came in the mail last week.  These are my fun new goodies.  I’m going to try CKE Earth and Space (affiliate link) because Susan makes it look so fun on her blog with her Earth and Space posts.  I’m going to be totally crazy and combine it with Apologia’s Exploring Creation With Astronomy (affiliate link).  I’d just do the CKE because I really like the look of it, but I already promised Batman a full year of astronomy.   So, I’m the crazy person who’s going to do 2 science next year.

I’ve also got the homework for Do not type and talk or you’ll say what you’re telling your kids….

I spent yesterday printing out the notebooking pages, quizzes, lapbooking pages, and such to put together the kids notebooks for the coming year.  That’s where those 2 CDs come in: The MOH 2 stuff (affiliate link, I was lazy and linked to the general aweseomeness).  I ended up trying out the reproducible and loving just printing it out quickly.  It makes my lazy heart happy.

There’s just something about looking at a new year’s worth of stuff that makes me so excited and happy to get going.  But, I told the kids we are going to finish off our science for the year today, regardless of actual completion of the text.  We’re all ready to be done, and take a break.

So, I have a month to get my notebooks and plans in order.  I’m looking at Illuminations2 (affiliate links) and figuring out what books I should have the kids read from their literature studies and suggestions.  I’m trying to balance their actual reading ability, with my enthusiasm for their reading ALL the books.

And if you have not bought your super cool curriculum for the year (because we all think our brand new curriculum is super cool, don’t we?).  Than make sure to stock up, right now ALL CDs are 20% off with the code CD20 (affiliate link). There’s a download of the CKE printables that I’m eyeing getting (not a CD so the coupon won’t work, but it’s on sale this month).

All right, I’m now back to my massive printing and advising young children who are working on The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (affiliate link) projects.  Batman is busy trying to figure out how to make a WW2 German bomber plane out of Legos, and a whole city to bomb.  This should be really fun.

  1. Congratulations on finishing up the school year. We just finished recently, except for the stuff we haven’t gotten to yet…LOL Yes, we are the silly people that do two or three histories and two or three sciences a year, too. I understand.

    1. I’m both excited and scared about doing both at once. We’ll see how that goes.

We were working on science and I just was done with anatomy. Done, done done. And I could tell my kids were losing interest too. It’s just so much detail.

  2. You mean it’s not normal to do more than one science in a year? :0

    1. As you do science? Probably not, but the super focused let’s cover this topic for a whole year, trying to do two of those…. That’s nuts.
There are times I envy your let’s learn about it as it comes up attitude, but my kids and I don’t seem to focus that way very well.

  3. woohooo way to go!! I need to plan for next year.. but I think I have everything all set 🙂

    1. I think I’m finally set, but I’m still trying to decide on a few things. We’re going on a trip, and I’m probably going to do some planning then.

  4. I look forward to seeing Batman’s LEGO creations!

I just bought a bunch of math stuff for Emma to do this summer, because it’s the subject she struggles with most. I would like to start doing some history with the kids as well, though, in no small part because my own knowledge of history is pretty shabby.

    1. His bomber sure looked a lot like a tie fighter from Star Wars, but it’s fun to see his thought processes on it.

  5. Yay! It’s always good to finish something and draw a line under it! Well done Ticia!

    1. Yes it is, and I just declared by fiat this week, we are done with anatomy. We’ve two chapters left, but I’m done. So, it’s done.

  6. I was trying to figure out how the bomber fits into The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, but then remembered the beginning of the book. Congrats on finishing history! It’s fun to see my homeschooling friends starting to plan for the next year.

    1. There’s just something fun about planning for the next year. I think that new year always feels so full of hope and happiness.
