10+ Age of Exploration books
I am a sucker for good books. I especially love good non-fiction books. For this Age of Exploration unit, I had so much fun finding books I went to check out the mountain of books, and had to return some because I was over my limit of books. I’ve included the covers of some of the Age of Exploration books so you can tell what to look for.
My significantly narrowed down list of Age of Exploration books
- The Most Fantastic Atlas of the Whole Wide World by the Brainwaves– because fun pictures
- Conquerors and Explorers (Fact or Fiction)– I’m not sure if this is still in print, but if you run across it, grab it because it’s a fun take on the Age of Exploration
- Land Ho! Fifty Glorious Years in the Age of Exploration– Homeschool Share has a set of notebooking pages based off of this book
- History News: Explorers News– I like the “newspaper” style of this book, it reminds me of those sensationalist magazines on the grocery aisle.
- The World Made New: Why the Age of Exploration Happened and How It Changed the World (Timelines of American History)
- The True Adventure of Daniel Hall– sadly this is out of date, but keep an eye out for it, if you can
- Shipwreck (Eyewitness Books)– the eyewitness books are the original gold standard for non-fiction books
- DK Eyewitness Books: Explorer
- Into the Unknown: How Great Explorers Found Their Way by Land, Sea, and Air– a great look into HOW we explored, and the various vessels we used.
- Westward with Columbus: Set Sail on the Voyage That Changed the World– I should have put this into the Columbus books…….

I’m a sucker for good books, too. I think it is a fantastic way to for kids to learn how to teach themselves.
It really is. I know I learned so much as a kid from the books I found at the library.
Another great list! We always enjoyed History News series…
It’s a relatively unique series right now, so it always catches my attention.
