April 2019 Homeschooling
While I did an amazing job keeping up with my March 2019 homeschooling despite not being home most of the month, I did not this month, and as a consequence, April has run together.

April Week 1
Apparently, all I have proof of happening is our attempt to create geysers for Old Faithful and Yellowstone National park. Our attempts were not as impressive as the videos I’ve seen on the internet. One of my homeschool mom friends gave me a tip to hot glue the mentos together, and to use an entire 2 liter bottle, rather than the multiple smaller bottles, so my kids could each try it. I’m gonna try that later.
Then I’ve got a few pictures from when I attempted to have my Mom take pictures of us in bluebonnets, as you can see, the pictures were not as good as you might hope for. I’ve got several with heads chopped off, it’s like she’s forgotten how to use an actual camera in the years since she got a smartphone.
Week 2 of April 2019
All that I remember from this week apparently is when I dragged Jeff out to take pictures for us, and I let the kids dress however they wanted. That means Batman headed out in his dragon pajamas, and Superman wore his chicken pajamas. He also managed to hurt himself while trying to climb the tree, which means I have yet another bluebonnet photo shoot this year with Superman injured. Seriously, his ability to get injured is amazing.
Week 3 of April
Okay, those two really big pictures are from something we watched with this super creepy puppet. I honestly don’t remember what it was, but I needed y’all to see that super creepy puppet.
Batman made an amazing meal of completely homemade spaghetti, the bread, the noodles, the sauce, and then we took it to his Sunday School teacher whose wife was in the hospital. That is a crazy story.
Going across the middle row, a picture of Princess cuddling with me, that I have no clue who took it, but she’s been having dizzy spells for the past couple of months, and I don’t know why. She’s had her blood checked, and right now I’m working on her recording what she’s eating so we can see if there’s any commonalities there.
The middle picture is a fun project I did with Princess’ AHG troop, we made prayer boxes. I’ll share more, but it’s a great project to do with a large group of kids.
Final picture on that row is a screen shot of a conversation I had with Princess. I’m quite enjoying my older kids and the crazy texts we send back and forth. This is her accusing me of slave labor when I asked her to bring me a cup of tea. I shot back, “TEA MINION” with some fun gifs. So much fun.
I’m currently reading Eternity Through the Rearview Mirror, actually, it’s one of about three books I’m reading. I’m really enjoying it. As with the best books, it’s got me thinking about lessons and how to teach it.
Week 4 of April
This is actually one of two collages, apparently, I saved all of my pictures for the last week of April, and all my busyness.
Easter, our church had three services, and the kids got to volunteer. The top is a picture of Batman helping with parking. Next to it is Princess enjoying a tea party with her cousin. Followed up by a picture of our rather mixed results Syria meal. Now the chocolate cake Batman cooked for his friend’s birthday, that was a HUGE hit.
Next up you can see the kids and I on Easter Sunday, we accidentally got there 45 minutes early so I had more than enough time to take a few pictures with the kids. In the middle is Superman working on his 42 Electronics. He put together his raspberry pi a few months ago, and now he’s working on programming it now. This really is emphasizing how little I know about programming as he asks me to help and I have no clue what to do.
Working our way across the bottom, is me wearing a knight’s helmet, those things are surprisingly heavy, I hadn’t realized how heavy it was. Then Batman with another meal he made, but I don’t remember what it was.
I just hopped over to Learnly, to see if he had uploaded that, but nope, he hasn’t, so I definitely can’t tell you just what that yummy meal was.
The kids discovered the awesomeness of clearanced Easter candy, and they very carefully figured out how much they can buy for $10. As you can see, she’s very excited about her candy.
The last two pictures are of us playing some print and play games from Cheap*** Games, which we once had in their original black and white games, but lost at some point. You can either download the free version from their website, OR buy the deluxe editions of Unexploded Cow and Killing Dr. Lucky. I’d forgotten how much I enjoyed those games. I kind of want to buy the deluxe versions, but at the same time I have a hard time paying for the fancy version when I first spent less than $10 for the games. But those expansions for Killing Dr. Lucky sure look amusing.
Three of these pictures are from our field trip to Lysts on the Lake. I love that field trip so much. As part of their homeschool day they’re given a booklet to fill out, so you can see Princess interviewing one of the knights to answer the questions. I MADE the kids actually go up and ask questions, I didn’t let them just bluff their way through. Though apparently, they did do that on the Viking portion, but I feel like the Viking portion was a bit easier to complete.
Princess was enamored of the idea of female knights. I hadn’t realized there was a whole division of female knights during the middle ages. They weren’t common, but they existed. That intrigued both of us.
The middle is our movie night for Midsummer Night’s Dream. That’s my favorite Shakespeare play, so I assigned it as the first play we read. We’re about to dive into Julius Caesar.
The giant pile of stuffed animals are the animals I bought as Easter clearance for pennies on the dollar to give to two possible charities. It just amused me to see a pile of 30 stuffed animals. The final picture is a book I finished this month. Actually, I should say an entire series I finished this month, the first being The Clockwork Scarab. It’s a steampunk novel with the niece of Sherlock Holmes and the sister of Brahm Stoker.
I’ve started putting up the books I finish over on Instagram, we’ll see how well I do at keeping that up, but it’s been fun so far.
