Okay, this month is all about moving. That’s really all I’ve done. It’s now August 19 and I’m just now having time to write anything, that tells you a lot.

Week 1

While there may have been things that happened earlier in the week, mostly that week was me packing like a madwoman and throwing things in boxes. Yeah, that was pretty much it. I had friends come over every day that week and help me pack, ending with my Mom coming over the day before we moved and we just went through every day upstairs and made sure everything in it was packed.
What’s funny, my friend who came over to pack on Tuesday, we ran out of boxes, and so we loaded up all of the boxes we packed, some of the boxes I already had packed and took them over to the rental house and then started unloading, and just generally tried to figure out where things would go.
Then, I had to figure out what would fit where, which was generally a problem because the pantry at our old house is almost twice the size of the pantry at our new house, and we had a “second pantry” where we stored other things AND more cabinets, so we’ve been doing a lot of figuring out what we need and where to put things.
But, the movers came on Friday, and I took Leezard for a nice long walk to tire her out, and as we were walking back the movers had gotten there and we walked up, and I took off her harness and she walked in and collapsed right in front of the front door. Right there.
So I had to convince her to move, and she was like, “No Mom, this is where I take my nap after a walk. Right here, you can’t make me move.” So we forced her into her crate with a treat and she glared at us but eventually settled down for her morning nap.
Things got all packed up, and then moved over to the new house. My Minecraft trunk was broken, much to my dismay, we need to order new hinges for it, sadly the creators of it did not put good hinges on it when they first created it.
But, I spent the rest of the day attempting to get all of my kitchen in order, and it is mostly there, but not quite. I’ve been missing some of my spices for fover a week and The Artist finally found it just a day or so ago.
I’m surrounded by boxes all the time, I’m slowly cutting down on the boxes, but it’s taking a long time especially since we’re spending a lot of time at the old house getting it ready to sell.
Games played: none
Books read:
- Ruins of Bone– we’re doing a read-along, so this has been my fun escape
- The Unedited Journals of Emma M. Lion– I’ve been listening to these as I worked at the old house. It has been a wonderfully cozy series to listen to. I’ve hit the cut-off point for how many books my library will allow me to get for the month, so now I need to decide if I will listen to this again and it’s worth buying the series or if I am going to wait until next month to continue listening (Spoiler, I did end up buying the 7th book, and then finishing that and then it was September so I have checked that out from the library)
- Bookwyrm Acquisitions– I reread this after the second book in the series came out
Week 2

For a bit of hilarity, we managed to set up all the things to happen last Wednesday. A painter was coming over to give us a quote to paint the house. Mulch was coming over to be dropped off, the sidewalk and balcony was being powerwashed, and someone was coming over to give us a quote on replacing the rest of the carpets.
It all happened. That big picture is of our friend who brought his mini-tractor over to help move the mulch and it was truly amazing how big of a difference having a tractor makes in moving a pile of mulch versus moving it with a couple of wheelbarrows.
While Jeff and Robert were moving mulch, I was upstairs vaccuuming and using the carpet cleaner on all the various places of the new carpet, and making sure every room upstairs had absolutely nothing in it going room by room.
Jeff and Robert started working on moving all of the furniture out of the bedroom and we discovered just how much stuff was underneath the mattress that you can’t get to or see because it’s hiding. It was truly insane to see. And terrifying.
The picture of the rabbit is the little rabbit who is probably no longer living in our backyard, but before Leezard moved in, I saw her several times hanging out there.
Speaking of Leezard, you probably can’t really tell, but that bottom left picture is her trying to drive the car back after I brought her over to help me with cleaning. Help really means she got to wonder in and out and not have to try and learn how to use the doggy doorbell I bought.
Yes, I bought a doggy doorbell, which she is not really learning how to use at all well.
For the read-along I’m reading a paper copy of the book which I bought, solely so I can have it to brag about and have fun marking up and writing notes in. We’re having fun in the author’s Discord discussing and making all the snarky comments and coming up with so many theories. SO MANY THEORIES. The next book comes out the end of October, and we are not in the least bit patient.
We’re also having fun coming up with some alternate scenes we would like her to write for the special edition we hope is someday released.
Oh, and despite having spent the past two years giving away so many things. I am still finding more to give away. I unpacked it and figured out I did not have a place for these in the new house, or just it got packed in the mad packing at the last minute and really it should be given away instead of kept, so I had another carful of things to giveaway.
Games played: still none
Books read:
- last week I read all of the novelettes in the Blood of the Fae series, but I didn’t write them down
- Winter’s Dawn
- more of the Emma M. Lion series
- Royal Gone Rogue
Week 3

There are no interesting pictures for this week, probably because most of what I did was move stuff.
I did go see Six the Musical proshot, but I have no picture to prove I did that. So you will have to take my word for it, watching that just reminded me of how much I love that musical and it was so much fun to watch it with The Artist and my sister-in-law and all of her daughters.
At one point last week I went over to the old house to work over there, and I opened up the cabinets and I discovered all of these dishes, and there were so many cabinets in the kitchen that I discovered were not empty like I had thought. So I started emptying them and filled up my car yet again with stuff from the old house.
Jeff took the Artist up to school, and I stayed home with Leezard as in this new house we don’t have a solid plan yet for how to have someone care for her, since she no longer has a doggy door. So, we’re working on our plan for that. We have no plan, none yet.
While they were gone I got a cool little piece of furniture put together, AND I got my bookshelf mostly unloaded and I’m very excited with how it looks. Jeff and I are talking about how we can bring another bookshelf or two back from the storage unit, which has me excited.
Leezard is having fun chilling out next to me as I worked on unpacking in the sewing room. It’s amazing how she can pick the absolute worst place to fall asleep in.
Books read:
- Ummm, I don’t know I read books
Games played:
- We finally cleared off the table, so now we can play some games again!
Week 4

This is quite the random assortment of pictures, and I’m typing this up on September 8, which tells you how this month has ended up….
Okay, so let’s start with that top picture. That is a fun little ceramic decoration Jeff and I bought on the first vacation we went on together as a married couple. We bought it from some random little place and it’s been hung up in our kitchen in the house ever since. The hilarious part is none of our kids have realized this and they hadn’t recognized it. They thought it was new. But, I hung it up with command strips, and since I’m doing that anyway I put it behind the stove where it looks so nice and pretty there.
Leezard and I found this fun little gazeebo while were were out walking, and had fun stopping to sit and enjoy the area before continuing our walk. I’ve been having fun finding all of the fun new places to take her for walks in the morning. I have also been getting lost from time to time, which is not quite so fun…
Years ago, I bought several art prints from an artist I quite love, Amy Brown, she makes delightful faerie artwork, and while packing I found several prints of hers I had bought and never hung up because I didn’t find a frame for them, and now I want to find a good frame and then hang them up here.
I took a break from unpacking to sew this top, which I really like how it turned out. I finished the sleeve hem with some contrasting pink, which is fun to every now and then see pop out.
And the last picture is from when Jeff and I went to go see Coyote v. Acme, which I highly recommend going to see, it is hilarious, and such a fun movie.
Books read:
- Binding of Silver
- the rest of the Emma M. Lion books linked earlier
- something else, but I don’t want to bother grabbing my notebook to make note of it
Games played:
- Captain is Dead game– we played this a couple of times before putting it away. We’re trying a new plan of playing a game twice and then putting it away.
That was August, and now to write up the first week of September!
