Creation story game

Creation story game

If this seems like a familiar topic it’s because I’ve taught it a couple of times before.  First, because we did My Father’s World, and then because of Mystery of History.  This time it’s because we’re starting a 2-year trek through the Bible with our Bible lessons and my kids get to be the guinea pigs for activities like this Creation Story Game.

For whatever reason I decided it’d be a brilliant idea to make a game of “Sort the days of Creation bean bag” toss.

So, I sat there and ironed on about 90 transfers onto squares and made insanely large numbers of bean bags (I had leftover white denim from Mom’s wedding). This then turned into me telling you how I made my Creation story game (Actually, and this is Future Ticia here, I then one-upped this idea and made a Creation Story Bible game, and I’m just about done creating a Creation Story bingo, which I’ve included the pictures as a way to remake these bean bags with better images and more clear images, we got into a lot of arguments about the original images).

Then I took seven index cards and had the kids make a cheat sheet about the days of creation.  I printed off smaller version of the same pictures and made jello stickers (my counter and tables were covered in these sheets for days as they dried).

Now if you buy the Creation Story Bingo, you get a nice little printable version, rather than gathering up index cards, and the pictures are already conviently sized to fit two copies on a single sheet, so it doesn’t take quite so much ink.

They happily licked their way through the days of creation, and finally drew a picture of “God taking a nap.”

And there’s their books to help them play the game.

Playing the Creation Story Game

And there we played the game.  There were 3 different colors of bean bags, and I just so happen to have 3 kids.  Coincidence?  I think not…….

Okay, here’s how I played the game with my kids at home. Each kid had their own pile of Creation bean bags, and I made six circles. They had to run over and put the bean bags in the correct circles.

Playing this game with my Sunday School class (which was a huge hit, and I’ve played this game with several other classes since I first made them says Future Ticia 2020).

Divide the class into the number of sets you have (I had 3 sets), and we turned this into a relay race.

Each kid would run one bean bag up and drop it in the correct hoop. Once the team was all done, they would all sit, and the kids would pause the game as we checked each circle of days.

If the bean bag was put in the wrong place, we would throw it out of the circle. We did the same thing for all fo the teams. Once we had checked all of the days, then we would restart the game if we needed to.

Anything that gives them an excuse to run around like crazy people is a guaranteed hit.

  1. This is great – I love that you used bean bags and jello stickers – sounds like lots of fun!!!

I have just been super busy (start of soccer for little ones, football for T, back to school shopping, etc)- no baby yet!

  2. Wow – you are a true super Mom. 90 bean bags???

  3. That is a TON of bean bags! How long did it take you to sew all of them?

    Great lesson idea!

  4. Hmmmm…. It was assembly line style, I'd guess about 2 hours to sew most of it, another hour to finish sewing after stuffing. maybe 3 hours total?

We just started creation with our Sunday school class – the bean bag sorting looks like a lot of fun, and I love the Jell-O stick-it book.

  6. You-are-AMAZING! Bean bags AND Jello stickers? I do not think this lesson could have been any more fun…or tiring for the teacher… ;0)
