Colonial America lessons

October 8, 2018 Ticia 4 Comments

Do you want to know one of my favorite historical eras? Colonial America and the Revolutionary War fascinate me. I’m intrigued by people who are so desperate to change their lives they would sail across an ocean, abandon all that they know and start a new life. Colonial America has all of the drama and pathos you could ever want. Stories of bravery, heroism, treachery, tragedy, and more. It was fun to put together these colonial America lessons, and it gave me a perfectly valid reason to dig deeper into a fascinating time period for our history lessons.*

Resources for Colonial America lessons

If your library is anything like mine there are dozens of books on Colonial America. I always run out of books I”m allowed to check out when studying Colonial America.

  • Life in Colonial America unit study
  • All American History Volume 1
  • The Mystery of History Volume 4
  • The Story of the World Volume 3 (I just learned the break up of ages is very different for these two)

These are primarily going to be on the East coast (for good reason). Both Mount Vernon and Monticello can be repeated for the American Revolution lessons, but they are a good look at plantation life during the colonial era.

Major Events in Colonial America

There are not many events before the American Revolution that affected all of Colonial America, but there were a few major events.

This is all of the Colonial America lessons I can find so far, but I’m still going through and organizing my history and geography lessons. I’ve got a whole bunch of lessons in geography where we read about a person for geography, but they also influenced American history.

*I reserve the right to change my mind on my favorite historical time period. Actually, it’s probably going to happen, you know, the next time I have a different time period to talk about.
