Cream of Mushroom pork chops

If you’re wanting to make my family happy make some cream of mushroom pork chops.  It’s always a sure fire hit.

Ingredients: 1 can Cream of Mushroom Soup, pork chops (however many people are in your family), Soy Sauce (I love this little dispenser), butter, garlic if you want

easy cream of mushroom soup pork chops

  1. Melt butter in your Skillet.
  2. Start cooking your pork chops, brown both sides.
  3. Pour the cream of mushroom soup over the pork chops.
  4. Add a bit of soy sauce (I just did a squiggle pattern over the meat, so I’d guess a couple of teaspoons, maybe more).
  5. Cook for about 10-15 minutes more, check to see if pork chops are no longer pink, and then serve.
  6. We’ve served it with egg noodles traditionally because that’s very popular in my family.  I personally like white rice with butter.

Don’t expect any leftovers of your pork chops because I never have any.

If you come back on Monday you’ll get a peek into how I plan our menus for the week.

Now, off of the grand cream of mushroom soup pork chops recipe and on to our week

reading into the night

Friday night we headed off to the Texas Renaissance Festival, and I snapped this picture of Princess reading on her Nook.  I love it, it’s just so perfectly describes many aspects of childhood.  My Mom saw it and said that could have been me as a kid.

Ren fest pictures 2014

This year was the year of many purchases.  Princess had saved over $50, and the boys each had around $20 (they’d spent a lot at NASA last week).  Princess happily browsed all the stores and ended up buying a fan, the garland you see, a small book, and a stuffed animal.  It was quite impressive as she spent a lot of time debating on the best purchases.  The boys mainly spent their money on games to play there, and a costume for their bears.  It’s been a lot of fun seeing how the kids are growing and changing as they get older.  This year they put a lot more thought into what they did and didn’t just buy because they had money.  They had a plan of what they wanted to spend money on before getting there.

Tex Ren Fest 2014

Part of my enjoyment of Ren Fest is seeing all of the pretty moments.  There’s just something picturesque about the whole thing, and it’s got a lot of ambianceRen Fest costumes for the year

Here’s Jeff and I’s costumes for the year.  Princess dressed as a princess, after much discussion on what variation she would be.  Superman was Green Arrow or Robin Hood depending on when you asked him.  Batman was an assassin…. in a bright red shirt.

costume element ideas

Of course for me part of the fun is seeing the costume elements and thinking how I’d make them, or how I could put that costume together.  So I take lots of pictures of ideas, so many ideas, and items I’d like to wear or make, or design.  Then I happily sit there dreaming up ideas and plans.

But, we did other stuff than Ren Fest, that was just one day.  We drove home on Saturday, dragged ourselves to church, where poor Superman hurt himself.  We thought it wasn’t super bad, so we didn’t take him to the ER.  The next morning we made an appointment for the doctor’s and….

week of Halloween

discovered homeschoolers really can school anywhere.  Those top few pictures are the kids completing their work as we waited in the doctor’s office.

And then the rest of the week went downhill from there.  We had 3 different science experiments on volcanoes NOT work.  Seriously, they didn’t display the effect they should have.  Tuesday we got together with Aunt Tara and Uncle Josh because they had to leave town (oh and I had a dentist appointment for a rather painful and annoying problem) because their pipes had burst.

Uncle Josh and Aunt Tara

Plus side Tara took some cute pictures of the kids that I stole from her facebook page.  Yes, I am shameless, I will steal cute pictures of my kids.

Then came Wednesday……  Sigh, we’ll just leave it at, I called Jeff and told him the kids were going to bed at 7:00, or earlier if I could get them dinner, and that’s that.

Thursday was a day of perfection, it’s like the horrible children of the day before were gone and it was a wonderful day.  WONDERFUL.  Some of that may have to do with the threats of not going to see the Tempest that night.

Oh the Tempest, it was a wonderful steam punk production of it and we all loved it, or I did, the boys may have said that just to make me happy.  Either way, it was a great show, with wonderful sets and costumes.

And now, it’s Halloween, and the kids are happily scheming to get all the candy, and we’re going to watch High Spirits (which is apparently no longer on DVD, so I’m linking to the streaming version, affiliate link) and Ghostbusters / Ghostbusters II (also affiliate link).  I need to decide on my costume, the kids have asked me about 20 times what I’m going to be, and I have no clue yet.

I’ll probably link up over at Homegrown Learners.

  1. Oh, yummy! I might even eat pork chops that way…Ren Festival looks fun! How awesome that you dress up as well and participate! I bet the kids love that!

Some days are better than others, huh? But “off” days don’t tend to last!

    1. For which I am very thankful. That was probably one of the worst days in my recent memory.

  2. What an awesome week! I love the Ren. Faire, of course. The recipe sounds great. I bet it would be good with Golden Mushroom soup. I love the picture of Princess reading. I have had my share of failed experiments. Happy Halloween.

    1. Oh I bet it would go well with that too! I’ve been using homemade cream of mushroom soup recently and it’s also a very good and different flavor to try with it.
That picture makes me smile each time I see it.

  3. Whew what a week!! I love all of the pictures from Ren Fest!! Glad the injury wasn’t worse!!

    1. Me too, fingers crossed he feels well enough on Sunday to take it off. We’ll see.

  4. I love all of your pictures from the Renaissance Festival — I always love when we have ours here (in GA it happens in the spring).

    Thanks for linking, Ticia!

    1. We’ve actually got 3 different festivals that are within a few hours drive of us both in the fall and spring, so we could keep quite busy if we wanted (and had the money to).

  5. I’m often struck with the idea that you are a costume designer in a homeschoolers body 🙂 I love how often you make note, not just in person, but on the blog of the costumes and designs you’ve seen and enjoyed. Which makes me all the more curious about what you decided to dress up as for Halloween! (Love the pic of your daughter reading in the dark, you’re right, isn’t that just what childhood should be?)

    1. I ended up going as Dorothy, and using our dog as Toto, a repeat from a few years ago. I’d been thinking of using different pieces for a steampunk costume, but that was going to take more thinking and deciding more than 15 minutes in advance.

    2. Forgot to add, that made me smile “costume designer in a homeschoolers body,” I do love to design my costumes, and put much more thought into that then I do into my everyday clothing.

  6. You have been busy! I try to keep homeschool-type work on hand for when we have to drag the kids places where they need to stay out of mischief. It works pretty well!

  7. I have to try this pork chop recipe! Do I understand correctly that you keep chops in the skillet on top of the stove, and not in the oven? RenFaire looks fun – I love all of your costumes. The story of Princess contemplating her purchases cracked me up, since she sounds a lot like Anna except Anna often decides not to buy anything in the end.
