December 2015 memories

I may have said this back in November, but if not, then here you go, my grand homeschooling plans for the month of December were to clean the game room and the kids rooms.

While in the middle of that, I decided to completely redo how I store stuff in the school room, and made that room a big mess as well.

Then I decided it was time to act on the grand glorious plan of switching the rooms around.

So end result of my big month of cleaning?

Star Wars has nothing to do with this, but I wanted to include it. Nor does the great whacking of the Christmas tree, but it amused me, and I didn't include it in a later collage

What had been the kids’ room is now spotless because Jeff and I carried every single bit of furniture out, cleaned the carpets, and moved in all of our bookcases.  In the process each of us got rid of a big box of books from our shelves.

The rest of the upstairs is a giant mess as the stuff from the kids’ rooms were dumped in other rooms, but they are now happily set up in what was the game room and is now the Kiddo Room.

As to super fun events from last month?

happy princess

Well we celebrated Princess’ birthday a tad late so Aunt Tara could celebrate with us, and she got to see Beauty and the Beast for her present.  This made both her and I amazingly happy.

She continued her birthday celebration with her birthday party.  This had to of made up for being sick for a week on her actual birthday, I mean it was like two weeks of celebration.

doll photo shootI spent the month feverishly sewing dolls and outfits and bandages to give my kids and my niece and nephew “Owie Dolls.”  If you follow me on Instagram you saw lots of pictures of this grand project.

Christmas fun

Then here’s some random bits of Christmas fun, the kids decorating presents, the boys smelling a pillowcase (because they do), seeing Santa Cow at Chic-Fil-A.  Standing by one of the randomly decorated trees here in Austin, Batman in the pillory at Main Street Bethlehem, and the Wise Men lost in a dog food bog.

kiddo Christmas

We had our usual three Christmases, at our home, then my Mom’s, then Jeff’s parents.  The kids like usual made out like bandits.  Between Jeff, the boys, and myself we got about 10 new games to play.  And then a few days after Christmas I got a game I’d backed on Kickstarter, so we have quite a few new games to play.

game play

Which is what the remainder of December and the first few days of January was spent doing.  Playing lots and lots of board games, well mainly Shadows of Brimstone, the boys’ new game.  We played my new game Commissioned
and Favor of The Pharaoh once.  Shadows of Brimstone was played A LOT.

homeschool room

And as promised here’s the starting point of my school room.  It’s actually significantly better because I had a friend come over this afternoon and help me organize my bookshelves, but I finished that before she came, so she offered to help with that mess.

It was a HUGE blessing.  But as you can see there’s still work to do.

  1. So much great stuff going on at your house. I love the Disney princess pictures. What a fun experience. We have played a ton of board games in the last few weeks as well.
    Blessings, Dawn

    1. It was a fun month! The girl playing Belle at the play was so nice and patient with all of the girls who wanted pictures. It was wonderful to see.

Wow, a whole month to catch up on. It looked like a beautiful month! My December child ended up having like four or five birthdays, too! Love your collages.

    1. I think it’s something about being born around the holidays and how hard it is to celebrate then because of schedules.

  3. How many children are you homeschooling? That’s a lot of stuff! But then, I love all your posts – so many great lesson plans – so it must be working.

    1. Between very generous family, and kids (and parents) who are natural packrats we have a lot of stuff. It all looks so much worse because of the big move of rooms and it being strewn about.

That’s part of my plans, get rid of lots of stuff.

  4. You have a lot to do, that’s true! It looks like you had a great December despite the sickness. We are also enjoying a few of new games here 🙂

    1. It was a great December.

  5. Your school room sounds exciting! I am very impressed with your Owie dolls.

    1. Thanks, it was a lot of work, but the end result of the dolls has been quite worth it. My kids carry them all over the place.

  6. A great December filled with memories! What little girl wouldn’t want a princess party? But sick on her birthday? :/ Happy belated birthday! I have 4 coming up, 2 in February and 2 in March. We did a lot of Rick playing over Christmas. (I’m not very good at it…) My kids also have 3 Christmases! We have a family one here, just husband and I with our 5 kids, then we have an early one with my parents and sisters and their families, and finally a Saturday After Christmas with my kids’ father’s family. It’s a busy couple of weeks for sure! Happy January Learning!

    1. I would have loved a princess party when I was a girl for sure.

Wow, lots of birthdays coming up soon!

  7. Reading your posts always cracks me up, Ticia… I think you guys have a lot of fun in your homeschool, and I admire that! Thanks for linking with Collage Friday!

    1. Life would be boring without a bit of fun, or a lot of fun. I’m hoping to be linking up about once a month. Fingers crossed.

  8. How wonderful to have a school room! I would love to have one room where all the mess could go and then simply shut the door on it at the end of the day! Instead, if we want to eat, we always have to clear up there and then…

    1. Now, if I could actually keep my mess contained to my school room…… Instead of letting it expand across several different rooms.
