I have to admit as I start on this Dominican Republic Unit and type up the next geography lesson, I’m kinda getting it confused with Dominica which we studied right around the same time. It’s time for the next country in our North America Unit: Dominican Republic Unit. WHEEEE!!!!!!!

Dominican Republic Unit Resources
Not too surprisingly there is not a lot of resources on the Dominican Republic at my library, so here are the Dominican Republic unit resources I found:
- 25 Dominican Republic facts
- 20 interesting Dominican Republic facts– good to know these facts aren’t boring
- 17 fast facts about the Dominican Republic– they were actually fast, each being only a sentence long…
So, now let’s move over to our usual Geography Now Youtube videos:
And this is right around when they have all of the Flag Friday videos.
I always find his Flag Fridays interesting, especially as he adds in random extra bits that he didn’t get in the normal video OR that he got wrong.
Dominican Republic Recipe: Spiced Bread Pudding (Dominican Pudin de Pan)
All right, I looked up recipes for our Dominican Republic Unit and found this list of Dominican Republic recipes. None just stood out as what I should try, and then I found Spiced Bread Pudding. Jeff loves bread pudding, so I thought it would be good to try it.
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups evaporated milk
- 2 eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon powder
- 1/2 teaspoon ginger powder
- 1/2 teaspoon clove
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 3 cups of day-old bread cut into small cubes
- 1/2 cup raisins (I left this out because I don’t like raisins)
- 1/3 cup butter (salted) at room temperature
Put it together
- Mix the eggs and 1/2 cup of the evaporated milk.
- In a pot, mix the remaining milk with vanilla, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, salt, and sugar. When this mixture comes to a boil add the bread until the milk has soaked it all up. Add the butter and stir until it melts and mixes completely.
- Mix the bread and egg mixture.
- Grease the pan (I used a loaf pan, but the site I found it on used a bundt pan) with butter and sprinkle it with brown sugar. Pour the bread mixture into the baking pan.
- Bake at 400 degrees for 35 minutes or until an inserted toothpick comes out clean.

Dominican Republic unit notebooking pages
We filled out the North America notebooking pages, and I quite like what I learned all about Dominican Republic.
Here are my fun facts:
- first permanent European colony
- they may have Christopher Columbus’ body, they’re arguing with Spain about it, seriously watch his video, it’s funny
- I found their demographics interesting, they prefer to identify as Indio for their race
- they have both the lowest and highest points in the Caribbean, which is pretty cool
Okay, that’s our Dominican Republic Unit, now to add that into my North America landing page, and into a few other places. I’m working on being better at cross-linking beyond my:
