Essential Oil Diffuser Necklace review from LowCountryEclectic

June 23, 2014 Ticia 4 Comments

As ya’ll know one of my best friends up and abandoned me moving off to the remote reaches of South Carolina.  She has now opened up a super cool Etsy shop called LowCountryEclectic.  It specializes in diffuser necklaces, literature inspired jewelry, AND really cool essential oil cases.

LowCountryEclectic goody box

The advantage of a friend with a fun etsy shop is you get goodies like this box.  As you can see, it’s packed chock full of fun stuff, and I got her special tea blend (which if you ask her very nicely she’ll make a special order for you).

LowCountryEclectic Wrapping

Your necklace comes wrapped in a very pretty organza bag, and I received the Peter Pan charm necklace and a Mad Hatter necklace, and a diffuser necklace charm (I asked specifically for a charm so I could clip it onto any necklace I wanted, or let the kids use it).

Ever since I got my necklace we’ve been using it on a semi-regular basis, my poor kids have inherited some of my constitution, which means they get headaches sometimes.  I’ve been able to put a drop of the headache relief blend and it helps clear up their headaches (and that one drop lasts for hours on the diffuser), and I don’t have to give them Tylenol (which is so easy to overdose kids with).

I also used it when we went down to the park for the day and put on a mosquito repellant blend I got at Sherwood Forest Faire, which worked like a charm.

I sent Amanda a few questions I had about Essential Oil Diffuser Necklaces, how to best use them, how to learn more (did I mention she’s training to be a master herbalist?), and about her eclectic shop, here’s her answers.

What sources do you think are reliable for finding more information on Essential Oils if you’re getting started?

A good aromatherapy book is a great place to start.  There are a lot of good aromatherapy books on the market that go into the benefits of using different essential oils for aromatherpy, I’d also recommend Learning Abouts EOs, and the FB group “Using Essential Oils Safely”.

There is a lot of controversy right now about how essential oils should and shouldn’t be used.  I advise against the ingestion of essential oils in most cases, unless under the care and direction of a trained and experienced herbalist or ND.  I’m not talking about the more innocuous oils that are commonly used in food such as orange or lemon oil.  The volatile oil (another term for essential oil) in citrus fruits is rather easily extracted and it is in a lot of foods we can easily prepare at home.  When you add lemon zest to scones it is the essential oil in the zest that is the flavor you can taste.  But when it comes to ingesting highly potent and concentrated oils such as frankincense or oregano it is a bad idea to do so without the guidance of a trained professional health care provider.  It doesn’t matter if the oil is of high quality–this is not an issue of quality, it is an issue of safely.  This gets into complicated toxicology and public health issues and for anyone who wants to know more about that I would highly recommend Vintage Remedies’ Foundation of Aromatherapy or Foundation of Aromatic Medicine courses.   It’s not a matter of quality, it’s a matter of safety.

What I would like for more people to know is that the use of herbal tinctures is a much safer, more effective, much more researched and far more affordable method of using herbal medicine internally.

The diffuser necklaces that I make are intended to make the aromatheraputic benefits of essential oils easier to use everyday.

Can you put more than one oil on a diffuser necklace or do you have one necklace per oil?

More than one oil at a time can certainly be used and in fact many essential oils work together synergistically are even more effective when used together than when used separately.  Every diffuser necklace that I sell comes with a vial of essential oil blend and each blend is combined in a specific ratio to ensure efficacy and enjoyment.

What is your favorite product you have designed for your store?  I’m loving my Mad Hatter Necklace.

Oh, that’s a tough one!  I love the fairy tale pieces and the tea themed jewelry.  But I would have to say that the diffuser necklace might just be my favorite since I wear my diffuser necklace everyday!

LowCountryEclectic essential oils case

What oils, or medicine do you keep in your leather satchel?

I keep several EO blends for my diffuser necklace and my car diffuser in my case.  I also keep doses of tinctures, homeopathic tablets such as natrum muriaticum (for headaches) and arnica (for bruises and such).  I also have one vial of my Headache Relief Essential Oil Blend that is suspended in apricot seed oil so that I can apply it directly to my temples for relief of intense headaches.  And I’m kind of a salt snob so one vial is always filled with pink Himalayan salt so that if I’m eating out I don’t have to use table salt.

{Side note from Ticia, my boys saw the leather wrist cuff from LowCountryEclectic and they REALLY want that.  A combination because they think it would be a fun pretend play item to pretend to drink potions, and because the cuffs can hold Nerf darts.}

LowCountryEclectic unique jewelry

Are you planning any Dr. Who inspired jewelry?  What other types of jewelry are you thinking of?

I don’t currently have any Doctor Who themed jewelry planned, though my kids have asked me about that a lot!  I am working on a line of Shakespeare themed jewelry that I am really excited about, though.  The Shakespeare jewelry has been a great outlet for my passion for masterful dialogue and I can’t wait till you see it!

I have heard about both essential oils necklace and bracelet. They are all creative idea of diffusing the oil. And you’re true about that a good aromatherapy book is great source to start for searching information about essential oils. Thank you!

This diffuser necklace is a brilliant idea to use the essential oils. Also the fairy tale themed designs are so attractive. I actually want a Peter Pan charm necklace for myself. The information regarding the usage of concentrated essential oil is also vital, and I will be careful next time I use them.
