Jeff’s birthday was a few weeks ago, it was right after we came back into town and it was a fun night of food and friends.
And what’s a birthday without getting a few new games? Officially the kids gave Jeff their present early, but they really wanted to give him Hey That’s My Fish , and I kinda wanted to as well.
The premise is you are all penguins on an ice berg that is melting. You’re trying to grab all the fish you can before the ice berg melts.
Now ignore any problems with the science, though it did lead to some fun family discussions of where it was scientifically wrong.
When it’s your turn you slide in a straight line to another ice flow. You pick up the square you started on and add it to your pile. If there’s no legal move for your penguin than it is out of the game.
While the game play is simple, it’s surprisingly complicated. We all enjoyed the game, and it was never a guarantee who was going to win.
Even Princess enjoyed playing, and she’s not as big of a game fan. I think she liked the penguins.
All in all I’d rate it a fairly durable game, and fairly simple rules to play it, but requires some strategy.
However the game we played after the kids went to bed, Fresco Board Game ……… That one was not quite so kid friendly. Definitely reminded me of Puerto Rico or similar games to that. But it was quite fun for all of us.
