I’m going to start off by saying, my kids are on the outside range this Generosity Bible study is aimed for. I think the sweet spot is in the tween, 8-12 year old range, but this is a HOMESCHOOL family Bible study. That means the authors of the study knew parents would have kids ranging from little bitty preschoolers to giant teens. So they designed these Bible lessons with your family in mind. I love how Generous Students homeschool edition planned all of this! This means I can add another Bible study to the list of Bible studies I recommend to my friends who ask me about this.

(Generous Family has sponsored this post and I’m glad they did because it let me find a new Bible study to recommend)
What comes in the Generous Students Homeschool Curriculum Kit?

Unlike many homeschool curriculums, they admit you are almost certainly going to have several students, so the base kit comes with supplies for three students.
This may not seem like a big deal, but I like that as a Mom with three kids, I would only have to buy the kit.
For moms with more than three kids, you can buy extra copies of the book and stickers.
What comes in the box?
- Generous Students teacher manual, easily laid out for anyone to just pick up and teach (that means if Mom is sick, anyone can easily step in and take over)
- Student journals- three of them, as I’ve already said many times
- sticker pages- it took me a bit to realize what they’re for, I may sometimes skim instructions and missed when we were told to use them
- generosity jar label- explained in the curriculum
- Generosity Heroes- each week you read about a different person who displayed generosity AND the particular aspect focused on for the week
Scheduling this generosity Bible study
I’m going to give you several suggestions, and then tell you what we actually did.

This is from the intro page in the teacher manual. You can see there is a schedule of what to do each day (I blurred out the password).
As I went through the teacher manual I immediately thought of back when the kids were younger and we had morning time each day.
This would be perfect for morning time, it would slip right into there with no trouble and I could just show any videos on my iPad, or we would go downstairs to the TV and I could cast my screen onto the TV.
I miss morning time, it just never worked in our schedule during high school.
This could also be part of a bedtime ritual as you read bedtime stories and maybe have an evening devotional.
I also miss bedtime stories and reading from the story Bible together.
This is a 26 week Bible study, so it can be your only study for the year. While the focus is on generosity, as you learn about each of the seven focuses (thoughts, words, money, attention, time, belongings, and influence) you also learn about empathy, respect, kindness, and more.
What is the teacher manual like?
I love a good teacher manual. Especially one that isn’t a script (though I have liked scripted teacher manuals in the past), but still gives you lots of support.
This lets me look at the ideas anddecide what activities are a good fit for my family.

Let’s break down my favorite parts:
- clear objectives for the week and the day
- instructions on where to go for each part (you would be surprised the sheer number of groups that don’t do this)
- extra books to read or movies to watch
- crafts you can do with your kids
Let’s look at the Generosity Bible study journal
This is why I think it’s strongly for an upper elementary with adaptations for older and younger.

Look at the designs for these pages. They are broken up well, all of the scripture needed is right in the book, and each week has a variety of journal activities.
Some are creative, some require thinking, and others require outside work.
It’s a nice mix that will get kids talking, and there’s a reward at the end of each “unit” to put a sticker in. I like stickers.
I was the kid motivated by getting stickers.
Adapting Generous Family for teens

Here’s where it gets sticky, if I gave this to my teens right now, they would not learn much. We’ve done a lot of Bible study, so if you’re looking for a Bible study for teens, I would not do this.
But, I’ve got a friend whose oldest is 13, and it is PERFECT for her family.
Let’s say however, you’re that mom who has a 15 year old or an 18 year old, and a 5 year old and you want to do this study with all of your kids, how can you do that?
- Use the extra materials listed in the teacher manual at the end of each lesson
- Have them use their index to look up more verses to supplement the study
- Let them lead the study and prep the materials, my kids would love to teach this to our homeschool co-op, it would be perfect for that
- Have them read Everyday Generosity: Becoming a Generous Family in a Selfie World
- Or read I like Giving: The Transforming Power of a Generous Life
