Guess the Bible Meme

A few years ago I was trying to come up with a game for our middle school Sunday School. There were a wide number of amusing choices available but none of them particularly screamed me, so I was absent-mindedly scrolling through Facebook, because what else would you do when trying to come up with ideas? When I saw a Bible meme while scrolling, I knew what my game was going to be. I gathered a collection of Bible story memes, and before the Bible lesson, I had fun having them play the Guess the Bible meme game. Fast forward to now and I had this great brainstorm of several different games you could play with this.

Memes printable (in the subscriber section, join my newsletter, but if you google you can find lots and lots of them), books of the Bible cards (get a coupon for this on that newsletter I mentioned), and books of the Bible game, and I suppose you might want card stock to print those memes on, and scissors or a paper cutter to cut it up (there you go Amazon links)

My super lazy meme Bible game for middle school

It’s a boys versus girls, head-to-head match. Send up your victim to tell me, is this Old or New Testament?

The grudge match to end all grudge matches.

Or maybe, just the easiest way to split up a large group very quickly.

I threw them up on the projector as a powerpoint (no I don’t still have it as far as I know), and the first person to guess won the point.

I might have even had them guess the exact story.

It’s been an entire pandemic since I ran that game.

Old versus New Testament Bible meme game

Old or New Testament memes

For this set up, I have cards labeled Old and New, and 5 cards for each group.

Say go and the first group to correctly categorize the cards into Old and New Testament wins or gets the points.

Nice, easy, and engaging for large numbers of kids.

This is a nice simple variation. I pretty much only had the Old and New signs because they were already there, and it could add in a fun twist to make sure they have them under the correct testament.

But, in this version you put the cards in order they happen in the story. Obviously, this is a bit more difficult than just putting them into Old and New Testament.

Organize it by type of Bible story

I don’t specifically have a picture for this one, but you take the Books of the Bible card game.

You know this one.

This is a slightly easier version of the next game, but I discovered as I was taking pictures that I don’t actually have a printed copy of the game right now having given my last printed copy away.

But, in this version you sort the Bible memes into the type of Bible story it comes from. Not too surprisingly most of the memes will come from histories, law, or gospels (those tending to have more stories), but I do have a few from letters and prophecy.

match the meme to the book of the Bible

I discovered as I was taking pictures, I do not have a complete set of my books of the Bible cards printed off, and half the ones I do have printed off are cut poorly. I will be fixing this in the near future.

This is obviously the most difficult of the games. When I made the version I took pictures of I created sets of 5 with only the correct books of the Bible for the memes. But a more difficult version would be to give the group an entire set of the books of the Bible cards and the memes.

Actually, I would love to do that version, it could be so much fun. Oh man, now I really want to see how that goes.

I’m pretty sure I’m going to keep brainstorming more games like this, that could be fun to do.

Some more Bible skills and meme fun

I’m going to share some fun history ideas with memes and unusual lessons and some more books of the Bible review games
