Harry Potter night!
I would link this up over at Mouse Grows, Mouse Learns, but I’m not sure it counts if I read it to them………..
We finished reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, and as promised watched the movie together.
And this time I actually made fancy snacks! Go me!
Pretzel sticks dipped in candy coating and then sugar sprinkled on them.
Colby Jack cheese cut into stars.
Gummy bears, spice drops, and jelly beans (in a bag saved from when the first movie came out, ages ago). The spice drops were deemed “too spicy,” and the jelly belly jelly beans were turned their nose up at (I forgot I’m the only one in my family who likes jelly beans).
Hopefully I’ll have more time to plan ahead, as in not 2 hours, and I’ll be able to actually find something more like “chocolate frogs,” for the second movie.
All of this equaled three happy kids.
We’re thinking after book 3 we’ll stop until they’re older and more able to handle the scarier themes in the last 4 books. Any suggestions of other books to read aloud?

How fun! Princess looks so grown up in this picture.
So fun! I love your snacks.
Kelly at Little Wonders' DaysOh, and I meant to say that Little J loved the Chronicles of Narnia series.
We're huge Harry Potter fans! I made chocolate frogs at our last feast by buying gummy frogs and dipping them in chocolate…they were a hit, and really easy to make.
I just read The City of Ember to my kids. We also read The Candy Shop Wars recently and they loved that one too.
Looks like a ton of fun. And how could anyone turn their nose up at Jelly Bellys? Those are the ultimate jelly bean! Our family has, at different times, read the Little House on the Prairie series. And now I've got a kid who wants to milk feed a pumpkin like Almanzo! 🙂
Very cool! We're big Harry Potter fans here. They used to sell chocolate frogs, but with both the books and the movies being over, they may be hard to find. That stuff usually came out to mark the release of either a book or movie.
Looks like they are having a lot of fun. We don't read the Potter books, but the snacks could go with other books as well.
They are so clearly having a FABULOUS time! What a fun mom you are!!!
Looks like so much fun! Go Mom 🙂
Princess is looking SO grown up all of a sudden!!!
We've been reading aloud the Gregor the Overlander books by Susan Collins. The kids are LOVING them. So far we're on book 2 in the series {I think there are 4 altogether}. Our library had the second one on cd, so right now we're listening to that one. We read the first book aloud and I ordered the whole set from Amazon yesterday so we can reread them later. 🙂
How old were the boys when you started reading Harry Potter? I am wanting to start with my 6 year old but don't want to push it….
Thanks,
CindaMy boys are 6, about to turn 7, and Princess is 5. We took about a month or so to read it.
This is the first chapter book we've successfully read together, but it was one they were very interested in because of the Legos they'd seen and the Lego Harry Potter game.
