Hickory Dickory Dock craft

February 16, 2009 Ticia Leave a Comment

One of my favorite projects, when my kids were in preschool, was our nursery rhyme book. I wish we had completed more rhyme crafts, but sadly we didn’t (maybe I’ll just make some for your kids to make and share it), but I love our Hickory Dickory Dock craft. It’s super fun to put together.

Hickory Dickory Dock craft supplies:

paper (or a spiral notebook), glue, nursery rhyme, drawing of a clock (if you join my newsletter, on the subscriber page I’ve got one for you, it looks a lot like the one you’ll see in the pictures for some reasons), yarn, scissors, and fun foam

Putting together the Hickory Dickory Dock craft

  1. Cut the rhyme apart and glued it on the paper.

2. The kids got to color and glue on the clock while I ran to the sewing room and made a very quick mouse.

Future Ticia here, when the kids got to make their own versions of the Hickory Dickory Dock craft, we made the mouse out of fun foam, which is much easier)

Finally to make the page more sturdy and to let them have more fun with gluing, I let them glue lots of random pieces all over.

Bwa ha ha ha, Future Ticia here, THAT’S not the final step. Let’s add in a few more steps.

4. Glue down the grandfather clock.

Future Ticia 2022, maybe this is why I switched to numbering the steps halfway through, and now I’ve corrected that to always numbering. Maybe I should have kept it that wonderfully inconsistent.

5. Punch a hole through your mouse, then tie the yarn to it (cut about a foot worth of yarn for this).

6. Cut a small square of paper, and glue the other end of the yarn in the bottom corner of the craft. And this is actually the final step.

And now we get to play it, as they say.

I just have to figure out what other Nursery Rhymes we’re going to do now.

These are the kids’ versions of the Hickory Dickory Dock craft. You can see their skill level in coloring, and their favorite colors at the time. It’s also interesting to me how they made each kid made their mouse for the project.

What can you do with the Hickory Dickory Dock Craft?

Okay, besides having the fun of making the craft, what else can you with this project?

  • learn about rhyming
  • learn about mice
  • learn to tell time
  • learn about clocks

There’s also a great picture book called The Completed Hickory Dickory Dock, if you can find it, I highly recommend the book.
