How to make a party bar

The holiday season is creeping up on us faster and faster, and I don’t know about you, but around here that means lots of parties.  Parties means feeding large numbers of people, and I’ve found the most economical and fastest way to do that is to have a buffet of some sort.  But those often look cheap (or mine do because I’m not good at presentation), enter The Party Bar book*.

What is the Party Bar book?

The Party Bar book gives you loads of suggestions for feeding your mob AND how to make it fancy.  There’s suggestions for all sorts of meals, appetizers, and desserts.  I’ve got great plans to use this with our gaming group, and just lay out the food and then say, “Get it as you have a chance,” and that is immensely easier than actually serving dinner.

Also, she’s got suggestions of what to put in each bar.  So baked potatoes, which I did with my in-laws, she listed off 20 different things you could offer.  Including suggestions for cooking large numbers of potatoes at once.  That is super economical.

Today we are having friends over from church and it’ll be easily 10-15 people here (I’m doing the math now, my family 5, other family 4, a couple 2, and a teen and a college student, that’s 13 people, I need to find more chairs).  We are having a taco bar.

I’ve printed off the labels, cut them out, dug up serving dishes galore, and we’re going to have fun.

How to use the Party Bar book

Okay, this is amazingly hard, yeah I lied, it’s easy.

  1. Pick a theme for your party
  2. Pick a type of party bar
  3. Print out the labels you like for that food (I’m fond of bright ones) **my one complaint about this book, the labels are not lined up from page to page, so you cannot cut out multiple pages at once
  4. Cook said food, or slice, or whatever you need to do
  5. Arrange food and labels according to suggestions
  6. Get lots of compliments on your impressive spread and decorations (I impressed my mother-in-law who is an amazing hostess, that is awesome to me)

They are for sale over at Party Bar, and if you’re still debating she has a freebie you can give a try (a nacho bar, YUM, I’m a Texan, of course I love nachos).  I’ve been looking for excuses to use this more often, and so far I haven’t gotten my chance yet (seriously I’ve had the supplies for the taco bar for a month, but things keep coming up)
