I will call this the week I feel discombobulated

Isn’t that a great word? It’s just one that’s fun to say: discombobulated. That about sums up this week. I felt like I was playing catch up or figure out what’s going on all week long. Splash wars party

We started off on Saturday with the boys’ birthday party.  We had a water war, each team was trying to take down the other team’s “fort.”  It was a big hit with everyone and I was very thankful the weather held and it was warmish and not raining during the battle.

Sherwood forestSunday we went to Sherwood Forest Faire and overnight the temperature dropped some 20 or 30 degrees, so the warmer weather we’d mostly dressed for was not happening.  I ended up buying Princess a shawl so she wasn’t shivering the whole day.  Poor Jeff had a fever and was miserable for most of the day, but the kids were happy as clams.

Sherwoode Forest Faire  This is one of my favorite shots from the whole day.  This death knight quite graciously agreed to take pictures with my kids, and the boys were quite happy about that.  Princess was cold, and couldn’t quite get up a smile about a death knight.  Though she was still giggling about him “getting married” at the fairy tea party without knowing it.

photo bomb of the day This was everyone else’s favorite photo of the day.  I had no idea he was behind me until they showed me the picture.  So that was a bit of fun and excitement from that…..

Eventually we were all too tired, the kids had spent all the money they’d brought, and we headed home.

poker with dice And played the boys’ birthday game they got: Poker with Dice.  Which is kind of like Yahtzee in the game play, but not quite.

Red dragon inn Then after the kids headed to bed, the adults had a rousing round of Red Dragon Inn.  The basic premise: you’re a bunch of adventurers who have come back to the inn after a long hard day.  You’re going to drink as much as you can and generally have a fun time with gambling and fights.  Lots of fun to be had.  I have yet to win a game and I’m rather bad at it.

Soooo……..  You can see why at the end of things I didn’t get my Illuminations (affiliate link) schedule written at all until Monday morning when I forgot to set my alarm clock.

Schedules do not work if you do not create them.  There’s some wisdom for you.

They also don’t work too well if you lose them after printing.  Thankfully they’re saved, and I was able to put together a new one.

pretty new hair Monday I got my hair cut and died my hair (during which the kids did quite well at completing their school work, I was impressed).  Then we had dinner with my Mom and sister-in-law and I stole her baby, well for that night at least.  She’s a cutie.

Things calmed down slightly Tuesday where Princess finished off second grade reading, so we HAD to celebrate.

reading celebration by eating large amounts of frozen yogurt.  Can’t go wrong with that.

We did sneak in some learning, but there’s just no photographic proof of it, and besides those ended up being some of the boring pictures.

Well, except for this:

acting out King David

Any Bible lesson that involves acting it out and pretend weapons is okay in my kids’ book.  I’m putting together my post on David running from Saul, but it just wasn’t coming together.  Hopefully it will all gel together soon….  Fingers crossed.

Oh, we did learn about the heart and make a giant sugar covered model, but those pictures are hiding right now.

lunch with aunt tara We headed off for lunch with Aunt Tara on Wednesday, I’m taking advantage of her being in town and trying to do as much with her as I can.  So expect lots of pictures of her next week too.

role playing with family And last night ended with a family role-playing session with Aunt Tara and Uncle Josh.  The kids had a blast with the session, and I must admit I did too.

Things I learned this week

  1. It doesn’t matter if you make a schedule, if you don’t stick to it.
  2. Kids will rise to your level of expectations.  I tried the kids reading the history lesson themselves and they were able to do it, if struggling a little.
  3. Schedules also don’t do much good if you’re constantly losing them.
  4. Cleaning is stupid and I don’t like to do it.
  5. We figured out a new reading schedule that includes working on Latin, which I was just not doing a good job of including.  This seems to be mostly working better.  Mostly.

Now that I’ve blown through our week, and got my thoughts slightly more organized on last week, I’m gonna head off and do some fun crafts with the kiddos, it’s Friday.  Craft and game day!

  1. I love your week so much I can only say that I wish I lived closer to you. You guys know how to have fun my kind of way. I love the picture of you and the baby. The picture of princess is cute, too. Oh, shoot, I love them all.

    1. 🙂
I wish you lived closer too. Your weeks are usually my idea of a good week also.

  2. I agree with you way too much on #4. Why can’t houses magically clean themselves?

I love your hair. And I was very pleased with myself for recognizing Tara in your game playing picture earlier in the post before you actually said it was her. I’m glad you get to see her!

    1. Me too! It’s been a fun and busy couple of weeks. We’re gonna see the Muppet Movie on Tuesday, so that’s gonna be super fun too.

  3. First of all, it sounds like you had a great week of learning and fun even without the schedules! Second, your hair looks great!

    1. Thanks! I love the hair, though I do a double take every time I see it, it’s so different to see. I can’t quite decide if some of my shirts work with it though….

  4. I love this picture of you with your niece. Your new hairstyle is very becoming. I am so grateful for our bi-weekly house cleaners – the best gift that I received.

    1. There are a lot of times I wish I had a house cleaner, but I can’t quite justify it since I don’t work. I think if I were trying to work, I’d feel completely justified in getting a house cleaner.
