What I’m looking towards in the New Year, and a question for you
Once you get into the new year you start looking back and wondering how you did at your plans and goals. I’ve got lots of them. So, how did I do with my goals for 2016? What are my goals for 2017? I’m hanging out with a bunch of friends this week, and it’s got me thinking ahead to 2017, and putting together my goals for 2017.
Spiritual Goals
Last year I had a goal of reading all the Gospels, writing/illustrating a book of the Bible, and a Bible study.
I apparently did awesome at my goal last year, I not only read the Gospel, but I read the whole Bible. Technically I listened to it as I was walking. I studied the entire book of 1 Corinthians, and I did get a “How to Study the Bible for Kids” ebook mostly done.
So, YEA ME!
My goals for this year:
- Actually publish my “How to Study the Bible for Kids” ebook.
- Study my Bible each night, not just read a chapter, but actually dig in. To keep myself honest, I want to try posting a picture to Instagram each night when I do. That’s my goal.
- Put together a Bible study on Genesis. I’ve got a big huge plan for that.
This is ambitious, but I think doable. We’ll see.
Parenting Goals
I did read a parenting book, and still want to read more. I need to find some good teen parenting books, and I want to read the executive function book Natalie keeps talking about. I followed through on my plan of more intentional one on one time with each of the kids, so that’s a keeper.
- Continue my intentional time spent with kids. In addition I want to build more intentional memories. I need to write about our plans for that.
- Have the kids take turns cooking meals at least once a week. Possibly more often.
Okay, I really only have two goals.
Homeschooling Goals
I didn’t do too well, actually I didn’t succeed at any of them. You know why? I forgot to plan in clean-up time and follow-up time in my activities. I’ve been working on that.
- Continue working on the kids’ writing. I see the improvement, but it still needs more.
- Finish up that homeschool room reorganization.
- Handwriting and typing still need improvement
As you can see it’s a continual process where there is improvement, but they still need more.
Homemaking Goals
I think clutter constantly reproduces in my house, that and lids to Tupperware containers. So, I’m always
- We got a cool new slow cooker (because I broke the last one) and a super fancy food processer (because I broke the blender). Now I need to get my kitchen reorganized to figure out the new stuff, also I want to take pictures of the clean kitchen and post them.
- Create an intentional plan for updating/organizing/decorating each room.
Personal Goals
I totally bombed this. I don’t think I got a single one of them done. I’ll just copy and paste.
- Read 1 nonfiction book a month. This should be easily doable, I’ve got a few ideas in mind.
- Write beyond this blog. I’d love to write short stories or something like that.
- Continue to sew down my fabric stash. I’ve always got a longer list of projects I want to do than I have time for, so ideas are not the problem, it’s the time.
Blogging Goals
I somewhat got them done, but many I dind’t get done. I got a newsletter created. If you haven’t signed up, I encourage you to sign up and join the fun. I did not get my ebook completely written. My Bible posts were updated, but I need to fix a few updates from how I did that because I realized there were a few things I want to fix. So, here goes with my goals.
- Write an ebook and publish it (I’ve got like 20 ideas for this)
- Get 50% done updating my history category << these last two relate to updating with blog content
- Finish my history lesson landing pages. I’ve got them started, and I want to get it done.
My question for you, can you help me plan my writing for the year?
Create your own user feedback survey
So, that’s my goals for the year. They seem pretty good, and I think it’s doable. Do you have goals for ths year? I’ve been getting ready to travel and am currently in a blogging retreat with friends, so I’m super behind in reading and seeing how everyone is doing.

Good luck with your goals for this year! I really enjoy your history posts, and looking forward to more this year.
I’ve certainly got more of those planned this year 😉
I’m so incredibly behind on my blog reading. I’m so sorry I’ve not been commenting. Homeschool is now keeping me busy 24/7. I only have my son for another 18 months so I want to make it count.
Well done on reaching so many of your goals – I think you did very well in deed! You’re not the only one behind on your reading/commenting. I just got to the last several weeks this Friday, and I still didn’t get all the way caught up.
