Recently I’ve been reading Pinterest Savvy {affiliate link}, it’s all about how to improve your pinterest strategy.
I’d bought the original Pinterest Savvy back when it first came out and learned so much then, and when Melissa Taylor (the author) said she needed some reviewers of the newly updated book, I jumped at the chance to learn more from her and improve my pinterest strategy.
Pinterest Strategy 1: know yourself and your audience.
The first couple of chapters are a basic overview of what pinterest is, AND gets you thinking who you want to be.
To do item: Narrow down your niche, who do you want to be?
- My goal is to provide great hands on learning materials for homeschooling, the classroom, and Sunday School. As I’ve learned more about who I am, I’ve noticed I tend to focus on Science, Social Studies, and Bible. I’m not as interested in phonics, or sensory bins.
Pinterest Strategy 2: Pick people to follow and narrow down your boards.
You find great content by following great content. Search Pinterest to find what you want. See who is following you, and follow them. I like to follow individual boards because I may like some of their material, but not all of it. That’s a taste thing.
To do item: Organize your boards in a logical manner.
- I’m still working on this. Right now I’m trying to make board covers that have a nice theme to them, and help me, and my followers find items more quickly. I’m also trying to keep seasonally relevant items at the top, so you’ll notice my boards currently have summer, and travel with kids near the top.
Pinterest Strategy 3: Pick a category for your boards
If you want people to find your stuff, then you need to put categories and board descriptions on your boards. You can explore the education category and it’ll come up with loads of different ideas for you to peruse, so add those categories.
To do item: Go through your boards and add categories.
- All of my boards now have categories, I’m working on refining board descriptions. I’m terrible at them.
Bonus Pinterest Strategy: Get Pinterest Savvy.
It’s FREE right now (May 29-June 2, 2014), and if it’s no longer free, it’s well worth the money. The first time I read it, I learned and implemented a lot that got me going, and this time around I’m refining all I learned even more.
As you’ve no doubt noticed, I like to learn, so I’m always looking for new things to learn and read.
