Lightning Fast Field Guide to the Bible Review

I love finding useful Bible tools and things that help with Bible skills. I use them in my bible lessons to help me write them and in my Bible Study. They can help you focus and figure out what is important to study. One of my favorite YouTubers and Podcasters was releasing a book and of course I pre-ordered it, and now that it’s here, let’s review the Lightning Fast Field Guide to the Bible.

What is the Lightning Fast Field Guide to the Bible?

It is a short Bible review book. The entire thing is about the size of a modern novel, and could fit in one of my husband’s cargo pockets.

I am jealous of those cargo pockets and his ability to stuff books in them.

But, aside from that, it has a chapter on each book of the Bible.

That’s it, and that is also not it.

Now let me get more specific.

Breakdown of what is there for each book

Each book follows similar themes.

You’ll get some vital stats that can be summed up in phrases. Things like number of words or chapters, where it fits in the flow of the Bible, what type of book it is, audience, or when it is written.

Should I put in my stickers in the book for the Lightning Fast Field Guide

Quick side-jaunt in my review

I’m a patron of the podcast and each time Matt finishes a book of the Bible I get a sticker. Now, the stickers are currently just slightly bigger than the images for each book of the Bible.

I’ve got 2 or 3 of these stickers and I’ve been trying to decide if I want to put my stickers in the book or put them somewhere else.

Opinions, should I put them in the book or find another place to put them? Maybe in my Bible?

Though, the empty margins of my Bible are slowly being filled with notes from other things.

Then we start getting into materials that will take sentences to summarize. Things like a summary of the book in a few sentences, lightning fast.

Content of the Lightning Fast Field Guide

Every book does not have exactly the same content, but here are some of the big things you’ll get in here:

  • topics to wrestle with
  • applicable moments
  • if you can’t read the whole thing, then read this (not quite so relevant if the book is 1 chapter)
  • most quoted moment
  • what happens if this isn’t in the Bible
  • what could you physically look at from this book> not always possible, but I found this fascinating, and this is also why we get pictures in the book

Things that sometimes appear and sometimes don’t

  • historical context or what to know before you read it
  • specific themes of books> Exodus has several specific themes discussed

Because the goal is for you to understand the Bible better, when a book needs something for a one-off it’s present, so John needs a couple of specific things the other Gospels don’t need, so it’s there.

These are all nice simple bullet points, and it’s all broken down in common language that doesn’t assume you have gone to church for years while not talking down to anyone.

All in all, I’m keeping this on hand for each time I start a new Bible study. It’s helpful to read through the summary of a book before I start the study. It will let me see some themes to look for, what words I’ll be seeing a lot of, and some ideas of what will be going on.

I highly recommend picking up this book if you want to level up your Bible studies.

  1. This does sound like a good resource. I would want the stickers to match the pages in the book so that I could put them in there.
