Hi, Future Ticia 2026, updating this post I wrote way back in 2015 to my current logo and to do important things like link this to my Homeschool Valentine’s Day, so you can know about all of the other cool ideas I have for you. Looking at this post brings back so many memories, both of making these with my kids and of being a kid when these were all the rage to collect at my elementary school.

This is also a remake of a craft I made earlier, but I’m planning on having some fun with these guys this year.

Meet the love bugs. They’re cute little guys aren’t they? They’re also ridiculously simple to make.
Love Bug craft supplies

tissue paper hears from Valentine necklace craft, Glue Dots, Glitter Glue (we go in spurts of using large amounts of this when I buy it and then being out for ages, we are on the out side of things so I had one bottle that worked), and Pom Poms (we use these for all sorts of games, rarely for crafting, but for lots of games)
Put together your love bugs

Stick your glue dot roughly in the middle of your heart. I had mini glue dots, and so I used two. I don’t know that I’ll buy the mini ones again, they are SOOOO small.
[Side note, watch preschoolers with these very carefully. I worked at a VBS program where a 5-year-old stuck several glue dots in his hair because he forgot it was stuck to his hand. They do not come out easily.]
Glue some glitter glue eyes on. I’d wanted to do some bright blue for Princess’ blue eyes, and some darker colors for the boys’ brown eyes, but I had this bottle. It works, but not as well as I’d like. Also, you could use googly eyes, but I have bad luck sticking those on.
Now stick your little pom pom on top of the glue dots. Simple as that.
I think our love bugs will be helpful in the coming days as encouragement as kids do chores.

They can stop and say hi to the fairies. They’re very talkative fellows. I don’t know how without a mouth, but they are.
They’re very helpful with the laundry. They like to pop up and encourage you to fold the clothes more carefully.

And they’re always up for a cuppa tea. Or maybe that’s me, I’m always up for tea, as I sit her sipping a specialty blend my friend made me (it’s supposed to be immune boosting).
A funny story about the love bugs
Okay, Future Ticia 2026 is adding in this story about the love bugs that I could have sworn I told originally, but did not.

You know how schools always have fundraisers of some sort that have those cheap prizes which if you were to buy them could be purchased for much cheaper than if you were to actually sell all that stuff?
Well one of the things you got from selling were these little guys that had some kind of catchy name and were COLLECTIBLE. That’s right, you didn’t know what you were getting, but they were the little pom-poms on a heart base, but the heart was some kind of hard cardstock, and it had a sticker bottom, so you could peel it off and stick it somewhere guaranteed to annoy your parents because you, of course, did not ask permission first.
These little guys had all sorts of little accessories like top hats or glasses or what have you, and I loved them, but I never sold all that much because my parents refused to bother their friends to buy stuff, and I couldn’t go out and get all that many people to buy stuff, so I always had the lowest level of prizes. I would have maybe one of these guys, but I always thought they were the coolest thing ever.
I mean little creature with a top hat, what can top that?
This is probably why to this day I still find small objects fascinating. Blame the salesman back in my elementary days.
Yes, I am a grown woman with adult children, and I still think they’re the coolest thing ever.
