How to make your own portable writing center

Hi, this is future Ticia, way back when my kiddos were itty-bitty they loved writing notes to people and it was a frequent part of our homeschool writing, especially my daughter, and to encourage this love I put together a portable writing center for them to write letters. Five years later my daughter still pulls it out from time to time, and I need to go through and restock the supplies.

Supplies for a portable writing center

these are affiliate links: small box (I found a small metal box with a hinged lid on clearance), newspaper or magazines, mod podge, stationery (I stalk Michaels and Hobby Lobby and buy their stationery on clearance), lots and lots of stationary, pens, markers, pencils, etc

Tear the newspaper into little bitty squares.  Mod podge it all over.  I wrote a letter for the top modeling proper letter writing form.

I added a frequently written words cards.  It included things like people they write to, things they talk about a lot, and extra space to add more words. They were just made using Microsoft Word, and then cut with decorative scissors.

I also included clearance stationary I’ve been picking up at Michael’s.  I wait until it’s in the 50 cents or less bin for a pack of 6-8.  They care more about quantity than quality.  I plan to eventually add in some address stickers and real stamps to let them mail cards to their grandparents.<<<< Future Ticia here, I have since gone in and added in address stickers and stamps for mailing letters, and they are a big hit, especially since friends have moved and their Aunt Tara moved.

And now they’re running around writing letters to everyone they can think of.

  1. Letter writing is becoming a “lost art” due to email, ya know? Which is very sad- at least your kiddos will keep the “art” alive!

(Oh, I had a dream last night that I came to your house and hung out with you, and a couple other bloggers and their kiddos. Then all our kiddos were ring bearers and flower girls in a wedding…What did I EAT before I went to bed?)
