This could probably also be called the month of very random homeschooling. So, let’s see what were we up to this month?

For Bible
I’m just going down my list alphabetically, and this month in Bible, Princess and I started a mother/daughter Bible study with a few other Moms. It’s been interesting to go through it and see her perspectives on the Bible.
My Sunday School class just finished learning about Moses, and did our annual Easter devotional. It’s been really fun to watch Princess teach that devotional. I put a lot of pictures on Instagram of her because I was rather proud.
Geography
We didn’t do much for homeschool geography, we finished up learning about Great Britain, which I thoroughly enjoyed, and I’ve checked out about 30 books on California.
History
Homeschool history on the other hand was a much fuller month. We learned all sorts of things from our The Mystery of History 3* book.
We learned about Queen Elizabeth’s fashion choices from her portraits and created self-portraits (the only thing I’ve posted about so far).
We also discovered Australia (on purpose), had a race to find the Northwest Passage (no one succeeded), fought the Spanish Armada (wow did a lot of ships sink), and completed a mini King Arthur unit (which I posted our knight’s shields on Monday, and am now obsessively researching Arthurian clothing, because I can).
Homeschool Reading
This month the kids have been busy reading. They read The Tale of Despereaux*, and I remembered all over again how much I love Kate DiCamllio’s writing. Now they’re reading Stuart Little* (which costs more on Kindle than it does on paperback, explain that to me), and I expect they’ll be finishing that fairly quickly. We also watched the movie for The Dark is Rising* (The Seeker, and it’s truly horrible)
He has finally successfully collected all of the A to Z mysteries. #kidlit

In somewhat related reading news, Superman finally collected all of the A to Z Mysteries* (I would have saved so much time and trouble buying them this way, but who knew if he’d like them this much until it was too late). He’s been obsessively searching for those last few since October. Now he’s trying to decide what book series to collect next.
Homeschool Science
This was a busy month for our science lessons as we finished up most of the zoo animals and took that as a great excuse to visit the zoo.
So, the kids quite happily wandered around the zoo, and filled out information on 3 different animals.
We were going to start on fish next, but I jumped ahead a bit to try out human anatomy in CKE biology*, because they seem to of forgotten EVERYTHING from our studies a few years ago.
And the boys did an egg throwing experiment in TrailLife, which was quite amusing to watch them throwing eggs in various different containers.
Life in general
Let’s see….. This month, the boys turned 11, and I was in a bit of shock they are now this old. We went on a couple of field trips this month, but an especially memorable field trip was to a rescue horse farm and the kids were all allowed to ride as much as they wanted and pet the various animals in their petting zoo. Princess was in heaven.
Speaking of Princess, she was supposed to have a campout with AHG, but the weather rebelled, and so we went for the day (the picture of her on the bridge) and had a Mommy/daughter campout in the backyard a day or so later when it had dried out. That was considered sufficient for now.
And since bluebonnets are out in force and all the rain from this fall has ensured a great crop of them, I’ve been grabbing random bluebonnet pictures as I’ve been able to. Once I’ve got them editted I’m sure I’ll be putting up my 2016 bluebonnet pictures to go with all of the past years.
I don’t know why I thought I was going to be able to get this out on Wednesday with guests here, but for some reason I thought that was going to happen. Boy was I insane.
A lovely peek at your beautiful life. It is so fun to see!
Thanks!
I love these overview posts. It’s nice to see your kids enjoying themselves while they learn. Silly bluebonnets pictures are awesome 🙂
Bluebonnet pictures are the best.
Great review post! I love the photos in the bluebonnet fields 🙂
They’re my favorite too.
