My downstairs as I cook dinner as seen from Superman’s eyes
How’s that for a ridiculously complicated title?
So far I’m getting he thinks Batman is super important, both the person and the toy.
I also think he finds random shots interesting.
He likes to annoy his sister. That’s another important thing to do with a camera
This is Princess’ stepstool, I just finished putting it together before he got up.
Oops, randomly didn’t edit it to the right size (that’s the top right picture from before I made it collages), but I’ve given myself 1 hour to get all of my blog posts for this week done, so I need to keep going. HA! It’s not happening, but I’m going to do my best.
And this is with me deleting a bunch of pictures of tile…..
And then I took away the camera, and he cried mightily. This was all in a 5-minute picture taking spree. Seriously, there’s another 15 I deleted, and another 20 I didn’t even bother to upload.
It’s crazy.
All About Us preschool
We continued to count days of school and days of the month. I made a breakthrough on our days of school book when I made a template for it, and they had to put one sticker in each square that didn’t have an X in it. This works much better than them randomly sticking them on and saying “Mom, do I have enough yet.” Of course, it loses the charm of the random placement…..
And, notice lightsabers make great pointers.
MOST COMMON QUESTION IN OUR HOUSE: Princess, where are your clothes?
Her answer: “They were wet.” That’s all the explanation we get, just they’re wet. I’ll find them later and I can’t find where they were wet.
I just keep repeating to myself, “She will outgrow this, she will outgrow this.”
They had lots of fun watching me make their Halloween costumes, I still have to finish Princess’, I left hers for last because I got her first costume mostly done and she changed her mind. I’ll hopefully get a post up about this.
Princess got a new step stool for her room. Here’s how the construction went once she woke up.
Me: Don’t touch the blanket, there’s wet paint.
She then proceeds to sit right next to the edge of the blanket and loses her balance falling onto the blanket.
Me: No, you can’t touch the blanket.
She looks at me with pouty eyes and then proceeds to roll around the floor around the blanket. Never quite touching the blanket…… That girl.
And we found this guy in our front yard. Okay, so I know praying mantis are cannibals and all, but still they look cool. And besides, they eat “bad bugs,” so in my book that makes this a “good bug.” Which sadly is what my kids call pill bugs, good bugs……
We played at the park, and Mommy learned lots of patience, and then more patience, and then yet more…….. Why did they insist on hanging on me, when there was an entire park to hang off of?
I don’t usually include this, not because we don’t do it, but because I don’t usually have pictures, and it seems kind of silly to just keep repeating: we read Bible stories, this week we read more about Joseph. But, the thing I think is SUPER cool, my kids ask to do Bible study, and they get disappointed if we tell them no. So, we go through it at a random rate. One week, we don’t do all that much, and the next we do lots and lots.
This week we ate ice cream and talked about how Joseph was nice to his brothers even after they’d been mean to him.
Halloween Madness
It was crazy man! Crazy!
The kids, the fun, the candy.
We started off the evening with pumpkin carving. Why? Because I was so behind I didn’t get it all done earlier in the week.
Before we opened the pumpkin we guessed what would be inside of it. Superman thought there would be popcorn inside. I’m hoping that wasn’t a serious guess.
There’s nothing more worrying than your daughter picking up the sharp knife and saying, “I do it now.” Yeah…….. That wouldn’t of ended well. I’m quite happy with her no ER visit record.
I did all of the actual carving with the kids directing me on what shapes and mouths and such stuff. Does anyone else get worried their hand is going to slip and they’re going to cut their hand off or something? Or is that just me?
And once the pumpkins were carved they proceeded to sit there and feed their pumpkins. It was really rather unsettling. Seriously, isn’t that a form of cannibalism? But the kids thought it was hilarious.
And here comes the obligatory pre-trick or treat mugging for the camera.
I love Batman’s posing for the camera, he’s supposed to be Anakin Skywalker.
Seriously, isn’t he a ham?
And one where you can actually see Superman’s face. Notice the fake grin.
And they’re off trick-or-treating. Mean Mom alert, I don’t let them walk on people’s grass, so they have to actually walk on the sidewalks. I’m trying to teach them it’s a way to show respect for other people’s property.
I actually did kind of feel like a Mean Mom, because I’m trying to get them to understand the basics of politeness. You don’t just grab the candy, you take what is offered, and you SAY “Thank you.” I had so many times of making them go back up there and actually say it.
Towards the end Princess was getting quite tired, and we only went around the block right next to us. Of course she sped up once she got her Dad to carry her candy.
And the ultimate prize, getting to go back to our own home and trick-or-treat with Nana and Granddad.
But the biggest hit of the night: Vampire teeth!
And then the cider cup needed to have the teeth……
Which then started a plague of teeth wearing household items…..
Halloween Fall Festival
I discovered this like the night before it happened, now I know to check my local city website for any cool activities for the month.
Okay, who wouldn’t want to pose in front of a giant cutout of Superman? Okay, well Princess flat out refused to, but still, it’s cool.
fishing game- I always find games like these super amusing. Especially when you can get a picture of the person behind the curtain, so to speak.
Oreo stacking- I never would have thought of this game, but it was so popular with my kids. The whole goal is to see how tall you can stack the Oreo cookies before they fall over. When you’re done you get to eat one of the unstacked ones (the ones used for stacking are just used over and over again for stacking). LOVE this idea.
Cake walk- Everyone got to win at this Cake walk, which for some strange reason was called a Cat Walk. And the kids had fun waiting somewhat patiently for their number to be called. I was happy because they actually recognized the numbers they were standing on and they were in the teens.
Casper game- This one cracked me up because the people behind were stuffing the food back out as fast as my kids could stuff it in, which they LOVED, and thought was hilarious.
A fun variation on ring toss. Toss it onto the spider’s legs. Oh, and the other amusing aspect of this. It’s all crewed by the Parks and Recreation department of the city, so it’s all of these big tough guys manning the games.
And as we were leaving Princess was willing to pose with Wonder Woman. Oh, and in case you’re wondering, she is not dressed up as Wonder Woman. She is Batman. Don’t ask me to explain.

Hooray for digital cameras – at least you didn't pay for prints =)
I always love seeing what kid consider worth photographing…
This is too funny – he is definitely trigger-happy. Is it your husband in the last picture? He will definitely appreciate this candid shot 🙂
Funny. My son has a digital camera and I (bad mommy) have not even set it up for him yet. He got it in August.
lol my son does the same thing to me! and sometimes he catches the most odd pics…
Too funny! What an easy-going mama you must be!
This is soooooo funny! You have got to be the most fun, most laid back mom I know–you aren't the “mean one” at all:-)!
These pictures are awesome!
Ditto on the hooray for digital cameras. Gosh, remember taking rolls of film in and being so disappointed when you got back a roll of crappy pictures?
And being able to let your kids take pictures and not “waste film” is priceless!
