Noah’s ark rainbow crafts
One of the most obvious crafts for Noah’s ark is a rainbow, and when I put together my Noah’s ark unit, I created several Noah’s ark rainbow crafts to do with kids that work on fine motor skills, and get kids playing. All in all it’s a great craft to add in to your Bible lesson as you study Noah’s ark.

Noah’s ark rainbow craft supplies
I’m going to put all of the supplies you’ll need for each of these crafts up here, but I’ll list them again when I talk about the individual rainbows.
rainbow coloring sheet (in the Noah’s ark unit, or get the bundle and get the games, the storybook, and the unit ideas)
coloring supplies (pencils, markers, crayons), poster paint, stamps, tissue paper squares, pony beads, pipe cleaners, styrofoam balls, bamboo skewers, glue
Noah’s Ark Rainbow Craft 1
Supplies (literally copying and pasting these):
rainbow coloring sheet (in the Noah’s ark unit, or get the bundle and get the games, the storybook, and the unit ideas), coloring supplies (pencils, markers, crayons)
This is the simplest of all. It’s literally just coloring, but don’t underestimate how great something this simple can be.
Kids love to do crafts, and they love to talk with adults, so you grab whatever your preferred coloring materials are and start coloring with them and just talk.
This past Sunday I was in the K-2 class, and it made this kindergartener so happy that I just sat and talked with her as she colored.
That’s all it takes.
Noah’s Ark Rainbow Craft 2
Supplies:
rainbow coloring sheet (in the Noah’s ark unit, or get the bundle and get the games, the storybook, and the unit ideas), poster paint OR stamps
This version you can do with either poster paint or stamps.
I would recommend having lots of paper towels OR (and even better) wet wipes, like one per kid for between steps.
- Dip your finger in the red paint or red stamp pad, and slowly make fingerprints for that color.
- Wipe your finger off and start on the next color.
- Keep doing this until you have completed the rainbow.
I remember back when the boys were tiny, maybe 2 years old, helping in their Sunday School class. At that point, we only subbed because someone was always sick, and this way we could still volunteer, but it wasn’t a huge problem if we were suddenly out. But, the teacher had a craft like this, and I watched as she did the craft and very carefully wiped down the toddler’s hands between each step. It was the coolest craft ever at the end.
So, if you’re wondering if it is possible to do this with very young preschoolers, yes it is, if you have enough helpers, OR if you are willing to have some amount of mess. It super impressed me.
Rainbow craft 3
Supplies: rainbow coloring sheet (in the Noah’s ark unit, or get the bundle and get the games, the storybook, and the unit ideas), tissue paper squares, glue (I forgot to include this in the original supplies list, you can use glue sticks, less mess, or if you’re working with kids on learning how to use glue responsibly, use glue bottles)
Of the Noah’s ark rainbow crafts that involve paper, this is my favorite. I really like tissue paper square crafts and want to figure out how to add more in to my Bible crafts. Some of these are very obvious, but some are less so.
Oh wait! Just thought of another sheep craft I could do!
It’s nice and simple to make..
- Put glue on one band of the rainbow.
- Crumple up tissue paper and add tissue paper to the band. Repeat until it is completely covered.
- An alternative way to do this is to crumple the tissue paper square around a pencil eraser and use that to apply it, this creates a much more 3-D project, than the sample I made.
- Repeat for each color in the rainbow.
One thing I think is funny is how the colors somewhat blur together when you do this, especially if you don’t crumple up the papers too much, which really is what happens in a real rainbow, so I rather like that.
Rainbow craft 3, now we get tricky
This is probably the most complicated rainbow craft on this list, and of course that makes it one of my favorites. I was just so happy with how it turned out because I had to do a bit of troubleshooting to make sure the project worked.
supplies: pipe cleaners, styrofoam balls, bamboo skewers, school glue (optional)
- Push the styrofoam balls onto the wooden skewer, this is what helps the rainbow keep its shape.
- Start pushing the pipe cleaners into the styrofoam ball in order of the rainbow colors, then push the pipe cleaner into the other ball.
- Take another pipe cleaner (color does not matter), and push it into the styrofoam ball where it rests against the table, this provides a stabilizer so the rainbow will stand up.
While the instructions are easy, it takes a bit more finagling to get this to work right, and if you want it to stay together and not at all fall apart, I would dip the bamboo skewers and pipe cleaners in glue so they are held in place more securely, that part didn’t matter to me as much, so I did not do that.
I also figured out you have to finagle the pipe cleaners as you get further into the rainbow and either fold them to make them shorter or cut them.
Final rainbow craft
And the final Noah’s ark rainbow craft is another relatively simple one that even older kids will enjoy.
I mean, we had beads out for the teens to make bracelets at youth camp this summer and every day there were lots of people there.
EVERY DAY during free time, and even right up until the final night.
Every time I make a bracelet craft sample I keep thinking, “oh, this is so long, I’ll cut the pipe cleaner in half,” and then I realize, “No, I really needed a bigger piece,” and so I twist two pieces together.
Supplies: pony beads, pipe cleaners
- I like to pre-make the kits for kids, it makes it easier when doing this with a Sunday School craft. So decide which variation you want to do and put the appropriate number of beads in the bag, usually it is 3 per color
- Then start putting the beads on. The nice thing about using pipe cleaners for putting the beads on, they stay much more still than yarn. Yarn just squirms around.
- When all of the beads are on, twist the ends of the pipe cleaners together to form a bracelet (you’ll be able to see the picture of how that is done much more clearly in the unit.
And that is my five Noah’s ark rainbow crafts. I really love these crafts and how they came out. What do you think?
