November 2024 in review

Sigh, it’s December 4 and I’m just now writing this. That tells you what my month was like.

Yes, I’ll get some affiliate links in here, maybe probably will be added in later.

Week 1

We’ll start off with this fun little rock telling me to smile. Someone in my neighborhood is painting rocks and leaving them for people to find.

Then Sean was given the opportunity to interview Dallas Jenkins about The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, so I got to see it before it came out and we spent a good hour discussing the book and the movie. That top right picture is me with my nieces and nephew after watching the movie. I LOVE the new movie so much, it was a lot of fun watching it, and it was a great chance to talk about our different reactions since Sean doesn’t remember reading the book but I distinctly remember reading it and loving it as a kid.

Then I am leading the God and Me Bible Study in The Artist’s old AHG troop. We made a memory game using the Days of Creation bingo made into jello stickers. The girls thought it was quite fun to lick the stickers, and I discovered that you really need to use any flavor but a red flavor because the red dyes the paper and shows through. OOPS.

And then finally I voted. Surprise. The line was fairly short when I went through but talking to the worker the lines had been very up and down all day long.

  • I managed to not write down books this month, so I’ll come back and update this tomorrow

Week 2

We got to go visit Batman! That’s the big event of this week and what most of the pictures are of. We drove up to his base, taking a copy of Clank Legacy that we intended to leave with him (spoiler, we didn’t because we didn’t finish off the storyline and he wants to finish it over his holiday block leave).

While there we ate at his favorite restaurant, got to play D&D with his army buddies (there is a lot more swearing than with our friends), visit his church, and play a lot of board games. We also got to see The Best Christmas Pageant Ever in the theaters with him opening weekend, which was a lot of fun.

And then we drove home. I also have a picture that actually took place next week, so I’ll talk about that then.

Now, my alarm is going off, so I need to head off and go do that.

Week 3

All right on to week 3. We talked about Esther, and since they didn’t have a sub the week we were gone that meant I get to make the craft, and I’m sure the teachers next period loved that we made noisemakers, and the kids brought in this wonderful thing.

But here is the most hilarious story. So, there I am sitting at recess during Sunday School and I get this text from my brother, “Do you want to go see Wicked with me this afternoon at 2 for the early screening?” Why yes of course I want to go see Wicked a week early, so I responded very quickly, and then he told me I was saving him from a civil war in his house when his oldest daughter discovered Jeff was going to go see the movie without her rather than the envisioned mother/daughter movie night as their first viewing. Sean tried to get an extra ticket and was not able to, so I threw myself on that grenade and got to go see it before it came out. It was so much fun.

I was greatly amused when I was doing grocery shopping for Thanksgiving because suddenly I was no longer grabbing the mini-cart and I was buying the 3 gallons of milk again, and I was no longer buying just a little bit of groceries, but so many groceries they barely fit in my cart. Admittedly it was for Thanksgiving as well as the college students being home again, but it was kind of funny.

And I’ve started a new sewing project, which I got the bodice partially done while the kids were home, and it’s got all sorts of seams to put together, and I tried this past Sunday night, and I’m not quite sure I like how the the front works. Most of it works, but I’m still not sure. I need to try it on with a tank top underneath and pinned in place (since it has no closures to hold it) and take pictures to try and figure out just what I want it to do.

Oh and there are no pictures for this, but The Artist turned 18 (Happy 18th Birthday Artist!). It’s so weird to realize that all of my children are now adults.

Books read:

  • Still have to add that in tomorrow

Week 4

And here’s the last week. Of course the pictures are rather all out of order. In the very bottom left corner, Jeff and I went to see Wicked together, he was surprised how much he enjoyed it and we had a lovely lunch afterward discussing the movie and our thoughts on it.

Then we have a picture of the craft for Sunday, which was Isaiah, and we made a cross because so much of Isaiah is predicting Jesus’ coming and his death and resurrection. The kids had a lot of fun with it. That is the picture just above Jeff and I at the movies.

Next to that, Superman and the Artist came home and Superman desperately needed a haircut, so we gave him one, and I snuck a quick picture of the super shaggy hair that was amusing me so much.

And that bottom picture is the first two panels with the not lined up piecing which I had to pick out and then resew, which was so not fun. I now have that all sewn together and fixed. So many hours of work.

The next day the cousins came over and everyone decorated the Christmas presents. It makes me so happy to see them all painted like that. Then they went out to IHOP to celebrate her birthday and it was lots of fun to listen to them talking late into the night, though little Charis did fall asleep despite claiming that she was not at all sleepy.

Then as the turkey was cooking and we were waiting for everyone to come over we got in several rounds of Dracthyrs dice (which I am sure I spelled wrong, I should find the official box sometime to remember how that’s spelled). It’s a nice fast dice game that can easily accommodate many people. It also only takes like 5 minutes to play.

We got our tree and decorated it on Saturday. I was sick on Friday so Jeff took the kids to pick up the tree while I stayed home and just felt vaguely sick and drank lots of Sprite.

And that rounds out our November, it was a good if very busy month.

Books read:

  • yep more books

Games played:

  • more Clank
  • Dracthyr Dice (I really need to find exactly what this game is called so I can get the right name)
