October 2021 month in review
It is October 28, and I’m just now starting, that gives you an idea of how the month has gone. I’m discovering that so much leaves me feeling behind, and I’m having more of a hard time focusing. Sigh, oh well, even if it felt like a crazy month it was a really good month overall.

Week 1
We got new families joining our small group with young kids, so we needed a good place for kids to hang out, and we decided to clean up our movie room and make it presentable for kids. While we were tearing the whole thing apart we figured, why not paint it, so paint it we did.
Then we realized, “hey, there are some furniture we need for this,” and so we picked up a large shelving unit to hold the boys board games. Which of course means goofing off in Ikea.
Then as we were working on the front yard, Leezard showed us her new trick. She’s figured out she can shove the boards she doesn’t want out of the way, and voila a handy dandy way to escape.
The picture in the middle is of The Artist at an event, where she gave her testimony and explained how the Bible and God have helped her through hard times. It was an amazing story, and if I thought it wouldn’t be incredibly unfair of me to share it without her permission I would, because it was awesome.
We finished up the week celebrating the birthday of one of my Awkward Unicorns (that bottom right picture). She loves her present, we put her art on a t-shirt and she super loved it.
Week 2
I made Superman let me get a picture of him reading All Quiet on the Western Front before I turned it back into the library, and this is how he decided to get the picture.
Sigh…
The picture in the top right is Benin meatballs with red sauce. I always enjoy trying different meatballs to see if anyone of them have a particularly amazing different flavor. This one turned out a little dry, and we weren’t super big fans of the red sauce (oh man, I can’t even find those pictures, which means I’ll have to remake the recipe).
The kids all took the PSAT that Wednesday, which was an adventure all by itself because we had no idea where to go, and I managed to drop them off at the wrong entrance, and they finally ended up bullying Superman into asking a random kid how to get to the room they were in, and the kid looked at them like they were crazy. It was a truly strange occurrence.
Afterward, I took the kids to Chic-Fil-A for lunch, and I realized the boys were wearing the same shirt, which made me laugh and we started to joke about switching places to take each other’s test.
They didn’t find it as funny as I did.
I started working through the book of Colossians with my Precept Bible study group and realized I’d studied through it before at some point.
Week 3
Whereas the week before I got Superman reading his September book, this week I got the other two. Batman chose to get his picture standing in a corner. I really don’t know why. The Artist doesn’t want her picture taken if she can avoid it, so she had the dogs read the book, which really made me laugh.
That Friday, which really was the start of the week was Jeff’s birthday, so we spent the day hanging out with him, we played a bunch of games, went out to lunch, and then all went to go paint coffee mugs together. It was a really fun day.
That Sunday was the second annual Pretty Dress Day, we all came to church wearing fancy dresses and then we went out to eat at a nice cheap restaurant where we looked quite suitably out of place. The girls all loved it and had a blast with our pretty dresses.
Week 4
This last week was filled with sewing. It’s costume time, and I had to fix Batman’s coat. I made the coat a few years ago, and as you can tell he got just a little bit taller since I first made the coat. I probably added 18 inches of length to the coat.
The dogs finally figured out they can get up into the upstairs, which is a problem because we don’t have the upstairs dog-proofed, and that means they run about finding things to chew on. That top middle picture is them staring and trying to figure out how to get upstairs.
The middle-middle picture is of our Botswana meal and then later the same week we had our Algerian chicken meal (which would have looked so much more impressive if I’d gotten a picture of the whole chicken before I cut it up, but I didn’t). I’m trying to have us learn about 2 countries a week so we can actually finish up all those countries before the boys head off to college. This does mean I’m having the hardest time keeping each meal correct, but I’m working on it.
The couch pictures is what my life looks like quite often, kids piled up on the couch messing with the dogs, and it always makes me smile, so I get lots of pictures of it, which looking at later don’t look quite as good as a picture.
the middle left picture is from our church’s pumpkin hunt. We drove all over the city to try and find the golden pumpkin, and almost got it, but weren’t quite in time.
Sadness.
Okay, I’m all caught up to October 28, I’m going to add in some pictures of Halloween, but now I’m heading off to bed.
