Organizing craft supplies

organizing craft supplies

Like most homeschooling moms I have a lot of craft supplies.  That is compounded by my love of crafts as well.  So, it just gets worse when you add in my stuff.  Today, I’m going to primarily focus on organizing kid craft supplies.

Supplies needed {affiliate links}: Safe Edge Can Opener , canned foods, plastic shoe box , Packaging Tape , label of some sort

playing with empty cans

1.  Make a meal that requires obnoxiously large amounts of cans, like spaghetti sauce.  Use the safe edge can opener to open the cans, keep the lids if you want.  I actually clean out all cans I open and we use them for toys.  I’ve got a large basket full of them, if one gets smashed or in terrible shape, into the recycling it goes.

2.  Gather your supplies and put them into categories, I found a set of labels on TpT that was geared more towards classrooms, so most of them weren’t applicable to what I wanted.  You can just as easily write on pieces of paper.

3.  Start labeling.  I just lay the label on the tape, and then tear it off, if the label is small enough.  I’ve tried mod-podging them onto the cans, and that peels off half the time.

4.  End results, lots and lots of cans full of craft supplies.  I like these because they’re easy to pick up and carry around the house.

plastic shoeboxes for organizing craft supplies

5.  The plastic shoeboxes I use for organizing craft supplies that don’t fit easily into cans, like paint bottles, coloring books, stamps.  These are actually cubbies from when I was teaching, but you can just as easily pick up plastic shoe boxes or a set of cubbies from Target or Ikea for the same idea.

Looking good! I am actually pulling everything out of the craft cabinet tonight after Sammy is in bed to sort through!

Good luck! It’s a tough job to get organized, and while I’m making progress, it’s sooooooo slow, and feels like I’m a glacier.

I am seriously loving it. I find myself thinking of all the different ways I can use this.

Sadly it is, the bad news is we technically never finished our science from last year, so we’ve been slowly pegging away at it……..

This looks like a great system! I need to label things more in my house, I think.

I love my safe edge can opener 🙂
