Pennsylvania state study

March 25, 2011 Ticia 12 Comments

We had a fairly full Pennsylvania state study.  The kids enjoyed reading about all of the different things we found.

Pennsylvania state study
Going around from left to rightish, on the left hand side:
Pennsylvania picture from Musings of Me
envelope with Union and Confederate soldiers
Berenstein Bears picture
State Symbols page (link to printable will be below click on the picture)
F is for Firefly drawing
Right hand page:
Ben Franklin inventions
Chocolate activity
Not in yet: firefly book
Pennsylvania state studyOther activities that didn’t have a printable:
Hershey fraction math
Liberty Bell
Amish/handkerchief doll

And sigh of accomplishment, Pennyslvania is done.  There was a lot there and we barely even scratched the surface even with 2 weeks on it.

Other things you could study that we didn’t even get to: more on the Amish, Crayola, there’s a couple of books on repeating Ben Franklin’s experiments, Gettysburg Address (there is an awesome picture book of this but I couldn’t find it and I don’t know the illustrator, but it’s pen and ink drawings, LOVE it), and I’m sure a whole LOT more.

I feel that way about most of the states we study. I could spend so much time on each state. Originally, I wanted to do one state a week so that we could finish in a year, but once we started, I found so many things that I wanted to do. Now, we just go at our own pace.

What a wonderful state study. When I think of Pennsylvania, I think of the Amish. The farms are beautiful on rolling hills. The roads are a bit crazy, however, as they are narrow and go up an down. The people drive on them as if they are straight and wide. Hee-hee. I enjoyed seeing all the fun things you have done.

Phyllis's comment made me laugh. Yes, we have roads that aren't wide AND twisty turny AND plenty of hills.

    Great unit!

You covered a lot in PA. I think of Magic Tree House and Philadelphia when I think of PA. Thanks for all the links!

Wow, you did a lot! And I'm thinking we should drive to PA with the kids for a hands-on unit study when they're a little older, since we're only a few hours away!

Great unit study. You really had a lot of interesting books and activities for this unit. It's times like this when I read these types of posts that I wish we were a traveling family, and could go see these places for real!

OK, I love living here in Tennessee, but I must say, I am mighty envious of Pennsylvania- Amish Friendship Bread AND Hershey Kisses? Who could want for more…

I think you did a great job of covering Pennsylvania! Hershey's is such a cool place, I'm glad you included it!
