I decided to take a brief break from our study of Europe in our homeschool geography and hop over for a Philippines country study because I was given a delightful book for the Philippines.
(Disclosure: I was given a copy of All About the Philippines* for free, my opinions are my own, so on and so forth, and it’s a cool book, so go buy it, and links marked with an * are affiliate links)

Now to the Philippines Country Study
I got my book, All About the Philippines*, and fell in love with it. It has everything I want in a geography book, and what I usually take several books to find: a little bit about the country’s geography and government, a little bit of history, a little bit of their culture and traditions, some food suggestions, and some stories from the country. AND it had some games they play. It usually takes me 10 books to get all of that information together. The only thing it didn’t have is population and size, that we found on Google.
The kids and I read the book together (actually we read parts because Superman was sick, and I hit the highlights, be praying he was diagnosed with pneumonia on Wednesday, which explains why he felt so bad on Monday when we did this).
As we read we put together our notebooking pages. We learned all about the history of the Philippines, and their flag (which I found fascinating).

We learned about the different types of people living on the Philippines, and all of the languages spoken there.
And we compared the three children who are telling the story. How are they the same, and how are they different? It’s really fascinating, did you know the Philippines has over 100 language types spoken there? And most people are fluent in at least two languages, if not three?
And the climate, and particular geographic features. With sick kids I couldn’t do the cool projects I thought of, but I’ll link to my inspiration ideas:
We didn’t finish our Philippines country study as much as I would have liked because Superman had to lie down, so I don’t have a finished copy of our notebook to show you, but I’ve included the Philippines country study printable to go along with it.

Random bit, completely unrelated to our Philippines country study
As I was looking at the back of the book I discovered they have several more books in this series: All About China*, All About Japan*
, All About Korea*
, and All About Indonesia*, so once we finish Europe and head over to Asia (Batman’s pick for continent study), I’m sure I’ll be picking these books up.
Also, I’d had a Bible post I was going to put up on Sunday, but with Superman getting pneumonia, we didn’t get the activities to go with the project done, so it’ll have to wait a week. Be praying for the poor boy, he’s feeling quite miserable.

That does look like a great book! I hope that Superman recovers quickly!
I’m hoping so too, we just got back from the doctor’s again with a “we can’t really do much else unless he gets drastically worse.”
I am so sorry that Superman is sick. The book looks intriguing! I am also looking forward to getting to Philippines in our random hopping around the world, we have friends from there, so I am hoping to borrow their recipes 🙂
It’s really good, and I’m planning to buy the other books in the series for Asia because it covers the material so well.
We made a mostly Philippines dish, but because Superman was sick, it’s not completely accurate, as I chose different noodles for the meal.
Love your lapbooking pages! We loved this book.
I saw your post, it’s a seriously awesome book.
The Philippines is one country we haven’t studied yet. The book looks fun.
It’s a great book. It’s the first time I’d studied it much. I visited there briefly when I was a baby, but I have no memory of that, so it was fun for me to learn about it too.
Oh dear, hope he is all better real soon!
I love geography books like these and I’ve not seen this one before so off to check it out. Thanks.
He seems to of turned the corner today, and is much more energetic.
We’ve got the All About China book and it’s fantastic! Definitely need to check into the others in this series!
Definitely going to have to get it.
I’ve been watching out on your facebook page for news on Superman. I’m so pleased he seems to have turned a corner 🙂
He does, it’s been a very long week. Of course I woke up to the next boy saying he’s not feeling well.

After almost 3 weeks of sickness, I think he’s finally getting better.
