100 Ideas to teach kids the Old Testament

I don’t know about your kids, but my kids are very kinesthetic learners.  They have to move and do things to learn something truly, so I’ve been obsessively collecting ideas for teaching them about the Bible, and in this post I’m sharing 100 ideas to teach kids the Old Testament.

To start off I want to share with you a few blogs I follow and websites I consult fairly regularly.

1. Auntie’s Bible Lessons– She shares a story and a printable for their lesson that week
2. Explore and Express– This blog is about Godly Play and the hows and whys behind the philosophy of teaching.  It gives me inspiration.
3. Sunday School Craft Corner– I do not think it’s being updated anymore, but there are some wonderful crafts there for many stories.
4. Church House Crafts– a well-organized site with many different styles of crafts
5. Bible Class Creations– this is probably my go-to site for getting ideas.  She is designing some wonderful stuff for her Sunday School class
6. Faith Kids Sunday School Bible Bytes– more ideas and crafts
7. Bible Fun for Kids– story reference, visuals she used and ideas all in one place
8. Catholic Toolbox– tons of wonderful ideas, especially if you’re Catholic
9. Flame Creative Children’s Ministry– so many printable crafts
10. Thinking Kids Blog– Not solely Bible ideas, but it’s amazing

1.  Bible Creation Eggs– put the days of creation in order in an egg carton
2.  Adam and Eve file folder game– in the shape of a snake, how cute is that?
3.  Cain and Abel– forgiveness craft
4. Noah’s Family tree– a great way to make Genesis 5 relevant to kids
5.  Noah’s Ark– make a boat to act it out
6.  Tower of Babel– retell it with blocks and toys
7.  Calling of Abraham– number the stars ring
8. Abraham and Lot-how to teach Sodom and Gomorrah to kids
9.  Sacrifice of Isaac– scroll down a little so MANY other ideas

7.  Gideon review game– I love any games I can bring in
8.  Deborah under the tree– it must be nice to sit in the shade
9.  Cycle of Apostasy– the danger of sin and how it pulls you in

13.  David and Bathsheba-yes, you can teach this lesson to kids
14. David and Goliath activities– because kids never tire of these
15. King Saul lesson-poor Saul really doesn’t do well, does he?

1. Kings of Northern Israel– trading card game
2. Elijah– following God in hard times
3. Elisha helps a widow– some great activities and ideas involving oil
4. Elijah rides a whirlwind– just the name alone is exciting
5. King Josiah lesson– I love the example Josiah sets
6. Kings of Judah– another set of trading cards
7. Solomon builds a temple– build a mini temple
8. Rehoboam and Jeroboam, Israel splits– try saying that 10 times fast
9. Rehoboam’s folly– really those kings were foolish
10. Josiah, good king of Judah– a young king who does well
11. Solomon shares his wisdom through Proverbs– Proverbs is a hard one to teach to kids
12. Elijah heals Namaan– a pop-up type of craft
13. Solomon builds the temple– it is so much fun to build a model temple
14. Solomon asks for wisdom– I always like the start of Solomon’s story
15. Good King Hezekiah– a great lesson and reminder for me
16. Esther, Purim food– it looks so yummy
17. Rebuild Jerusalem’s walls for Nehemiah– My kids LOVED this
18.  Nehemiah coloring page– love the What’s in the Bible visuals
19. Ezra and Nehemiah lesson– I really like Nehemiah, it’s a fun book
20. Esther, God’s provision in our lives

1. Daniel lapbook– I love lapbooks
2. Daniel and the lion’s den– fun lion mask
3. Draw Ezekiel’s monsters– I love the look on my kids’ faces as they pose here
4. Fiery Furnace craft– paper bag crafts are so easy
