Psalms Prayer Walk
A few weeks ago Jeff came home from work very tired and discouraged. It’d been a hard day, and he wanted to take some time for a Prayer walk with the kids. There’s nothing complicated about it, but it can be a good way to introduce your kids to praying as part of your family discipleship, and I’m thinking it could be a great Bible lesson for your Sunday School.
The concept is pretty straightforward, as you walk you stop from time to time to read from your Bible. In our case, we read some of the Psalms, especially the ones where David felt like the world was against him because that’s how work was feeling for Jeff that day.
We would walk a little bit, then stop and read a Psalm and pray about what was in that Psalm and for encouragement.
Then we’d walk some more. In between prayers the kids happily ran and played, which there are no pictures of because it just turned into blurs on my camera.
I love this for prayer time because it gives you something to do, I find if I’m just sitting there trying to talk to God my prayers go something like this:
“Dear God, You are an amazing and loving Father, and I praise you for all you’ve done. My foot really itches, why won’t it stop itching? Getting back to praying. Thank you for creating… What is that noise? Why is the…”
Well, you get the idea, and that’s a good day. On a bad day, there’s a squirrel, Batman, and food getting involved in my distractions. Kinda like writing this post right now, and I just realized I’d not finished writing it.
I’m gonna head off now because the kids are “making breakfast,” toast, eggs, and oatmeal. I’m pretty sure nothing will go wrong, but then there are those days….

I think it’s a great idea to stop and give thanks or reflect on the passing nature of our difficulties. I am trying to meditate twice a week, and I am certainly with you on interruptions!
What a wonderful thing – to have a husband who, after having a bad day, wants to pray it out with his children. Just lovely!
Very nice! Or at least it was until you mentioned kids making eggs and oatmeal, and I realized I had no idea what mine are up to…
What a great family activity!
What a beautiful idea! I love how that is what your husband wanted to do after a long, hard day.
