Kangaroo pouch craft and science lesson
After finishing up the big cats, we moved on to Australia to study marsupials. As we did the kids were intrigued by the pouches they had.
That’s when inspiration hit: let’s make a kangaroo pouch craft, it’s the perfect idea.
Why a kangaroo pouch? Well because many of the other marsupials had pouches that were upside down, so if we put dolls in those pouches they’d fall out, and then I’d have crying kids. Besides, kangaroos are fun to act like.
SUPPLIES: paper plate, brown paint, yarn, stapler
First cut the paper plate in half.
Cut 2 pieces of string, long enough to be able to tie them around you. At each end tie fairly big knots.
Staple the two halves of the paper plate together. Make sure you catch the yarn in one of the staples.
Paint your project now that it’s all put together. Try your darnedest to get certain stubborn children to actually paint the whole thing.
They don’t listen if you’re wondering.
I have stubborn kids.
Instead I got a lot of looks like this, because her project wasn’t perfect. It was not the way she imagined it………. Not at all, and Mommy you need to fix it now. I have about 3 more pictures like this in varying degrees of anger at me.
But, in the end she posed for this cute picture, so it turned out all good. She found the dolly she wanted to put in there.
Tune in next week to see how we used our pouches, and further studies on marsupials.
Let’s see what others did this week:
Each week I’m spotlighting a few posts that were shared previously. Many posts get linked up later in the week and they don’t always get as many clicks as they deserve, so I’m trying to spotlight a few every week.
Inspired Montessori shared an insect and arachnid unit. I’m going to come back to this when we cover arachnids for science this year. Provided I don’t skip that chapter.
No Doubt Learning has been sharing a great series on hibernation, this week she shared some fun writing ideas.
Fantastic Fun and Learning shared learning about animal tracking. I loved her tracking activity, it’s so multi-sensory.

PLEASE MAKE SURE TO VISIT AND COMMENT ON AT LEAST ONE OTHER POST WHEN LINKING UP. It’s only fair to the other people linking up, I’ve missed commenting on a few of you this week, but I’ve got your post open to comment this afternoon.

The boys sure have smiling faces even if Princess was unhappy. I think they all turned out great.
Would you be willing to guest post for me for the Geography Meme while I am unable to post during my treatment? We could work it out however you wanted…I could just post it on my blog or we could dual post it on both blogs. I could give you the meme code so you could add the link-up for that week. It is up to you -however you want to do it.
Cute idea! I came to link up, but not seeing the links 🙂
I’m getting it fixed right now 🙂
I bet my kids would LOVE playing with that kangaroo pouch. I will have to include that in our Australia unit that is coming up.
Thanks so much for featuring our forest activities!
