Sherlock Holmes book and a movie feature high 7th

Sherlock Holmes book club

I first read Sherlock Holmes in 7th grade. I believe it was one of the later Sherlock Holmes books, and I remember there being an extended flashback from the point of view of the murderer, or I think that’s what it was. I really should try and track down what Sherlock Holmes book that was. Either way, Superman is a huge fan of mystery books so a Sherlock Holmes book club was a given for a book and a movie night.

Sherlock Holmes books

Sherlock Holmes is the master detective, and I chose to let the kids each pick their own Sherlock Holmes book to read.

That being said, I don’t have a good summary for the books because they each chose a random different Sherlock Holmes mystery, and I didn’t think to have them write down the summary of the book they read.

That would have made sense…

Sherlock Holmes book club snacks

Sherlock Holmes movie night snacks

For our Sherlock Holmes book club snacks, I made it a combination of generic things from the books, and some of the titles of the books.

  • Adventure of the Devil’s Foot- nutter butters, I wanted to dip them to make it into more footprint looking shapes, but they’re also good just as they are
  • Hound of the Baskervilles- shortbread dog cookies with red frosting to make the glowing red eyes
  • The Sign of the Four- red jelly beans, or some other similar red candy
  • Adventures of the Six Napoleons- I wanted to have the chessmen cookies, but they had themed spring cookies, which wasn’t the right shapes, but that was kind of the cookies I needed
  • Five Orange Pips- smarties, I love smarties
  • Case of the Red-Haired League- red licorice

We also had some generic Sherlock Holmes type snacks we had for our Sherlock Holmes book club, I only wish I’d thought of a great snack for a violin

  • Pipes- marshmallow with a pretzel stick
  • Magnifying glass- oreo with a pretzel stick, I considered dipping it in candy melt or putting frosting on it. OR this chocolate covered nutter butters would be super awesome
  • Deerstalker hat- nutter butter with a marshmallow on it, and to my mind it looks like the deerstalker hat Sherlock Holmes is famous for, so of course, I had to have this for the Sherlock Holmes book club
  • Bandages- fettucini alfredo, it is rather amusing to me
  • Chemistry lab- lots of random sodas

We studied Sherlock Holmes before I started the kids seriously talking through and using discussion guides, but here’s a few I looked up in case you want something like that:
