It’s been a busy couple of weeks. I was going to write a wrap up post last week, and then I got busy or sick, or something, I don’t remember what it was.
Since Aunt Tara moved far far away up to Iowa, or as I like to call it Ground Zero for the Zombie Apocalypse, calling it this did not dissuade her from moving, but it amused me. Periodically the kids get to take turns calling Tara on the phone and talking to her. I found these pictures highly amusing as the kids wandered all around talking. So I remember later on, Superman is in the green stripe shirt.
Then we spent as much time as we could squeeze in with our next set of friends who are moving. This was just a time of hanging out at the house as I went through their books and cherry-picked the ones I wanted to get before their garage sale. At their actual sale I picked up Bank It and Picky Sticks. Their moving has been a bit of hard news because they’re our co-op friends, so I’m not quite sure what we’re gonna do about that now.
One night Mac, our dog, was going nuts to get into the backyard, and then I heard him barking, which is a rare experience, so we went into the backyard to see he’d cornered a possum, and it was quite mad at him. The thing was hissing up a storm, and doing its best to start a fight. So I grabbed Mac threw him inside, and like any good blogger would do (OK, I did this before blogging), went outside to get a picture. In case you’re wondering, possums are not friendly.
New Year’s Eve was spent playing games and watching The Return of the King {affiliate link} for the first time for the kiddos, we finally finished listening to the audio book of it, and that was their super special treat.
New Year’s Day I watched the Rose Parade with my Mom and Princess, a family tradition since I was a kid. Then I went and saw Saving Mr. Banks, and bawled all through it.
Batman found this bone out on a walk in a wilderness behind our house, and at some point we’re going to try and figure out what animal left this bone behind. It’s an herbivore of some sort, because of the grinding teeth at the back, but the jawbone shape is a bit odd, but it’s also got some ripping and tearing teeth at the front.
School for the week has been pretty low key, it’s been lots of snuggling in blankets as we got hit with a fraction of the cold weather most of the rest of the states got, and sitting by the fire. Of course my kids seem to be impervious to cold, and don’t notice it one bit. In other news Superman tried to steal my glasses and thought this was hilarious. Oh, and Mac tried his mind control powers, “I’m not moving Mommy, not one bit.” It didn’t work.
I was rather depressed to realize as I looked at my clipboard from the beginning of December, that I could essiantly save myself some time by just using the Illuminations {affiliate link} schedule from then. The good news is I essentially got all the rest done.
And apparently some other stuff that I can’t find the pictures of, but I feel much more done having gotten this much written. Now, I’m off to play Thunder Hamsters with the kids and whatever random game Princess picks.

Glad to know Saving Mr. Banks is sad…I’ll save it for one of those need-a-good-cry days. I can’t tell from the picture how big the jaw bone is…but my guess is wild hog. Do you have wild hogs in your part of Texas?

How sad that you are losing your co-op friends as well as Aunt Tara! Moving is hard for everyone.

Many years ago, we had a opossum family that loved coming into our house and eat the cat food. We finally had to live trap them and release them in the woods many miles from our house. It is hard when friends move. Quentin’s best friend just moved away (to Missouri) and it has been really hard on him. That is a cool bone. I am thinking it is an Omnivore, since it has both kinds of teeth. Looks like a wild pig’s teeth, but I don’t guess you have those where you live. I know what you mean about having to start over with the last week before Christmas break’s lessons. I think we are doing a month of Ancient Egyptian history to catch up!

So sorry about your best friends moving. At least you are getting a lot of time together. This bone is a fascinating find!

I know, it’s quite amazing to me.
