A cute story about a woman who takes in a lot of kids and how they live, and what it was like for them to live through a twister, and what happened to their house.
Now for the project.
First, make spaghetti for lunch. At some point I will write down a recipe for this, but sufficive to say the recipe involves lots of oregano, basil, and garlic. And it’s yummy. If I could I would eat it 5 times a week. Jeff objects to that, so I don’t.
Save some of those noodles for your art.
Next have them draw a picture of some sort. I chose to have them draw a picture of a family on a walk.
After they’ve completed this give them a spaghetti noodle and some black paint. They’re going to drag the noodle all over the picture to make a twister.
Here’s their finished results. It wasn’t the spectacularly amazing picture I was thinking it would be. I saw another blog post recently where they did it and theirs turned out much better.
Here’s what I think I did wrong:
1. I didn’t provide enough paint.
2. I think they watered their paint down a little.
I’m not sure. Anyone else done something like this? What worked for you?
All right, now head on over to Debbie over at Children Grow, Children Explore, Children Learn for more geography and history, and over to A Mommy’s Adventures for more art projects.
Now to go solve a fighting problem for some rather tired kiddos.
I don't know what you would do to make this turn out the way you wanted it to. Great idea though. Thank you for linking up.
That's funny – I cooked too many noodles for our spaghetti, today. I guess I had a bigger package than usual – anyway, I thought briefly about using some of the extra noodles for an art project. Then, I thought about paint covered noodles hanging from the walls, and ceiling, and thought better of it. But, it's fun to see it here 🙂
I think we may have painted with spaghetti once, but I don't think the end result was anything memorable. Cute idea.
We've never painted with spaghetti, yet. Interesting idea though.
As usual, I so greatly enjoy your honesty…painted noodles and all…
I wonder if yarn would work better? We've done some fun yarn art, and the fibers absorb paint better – at least I think they would…
I have this book on request at the library. I wasn't thinking of doing an art project with it though, I was just going to pair it with a tornado bottle.
Only reading the comments I realized that they were supposed to paint with noodles. Brave, very brave 🙂
Hmm…I was thinking of painting with spaghetti after seeing it out there, but now I am not so sure….thanks for giving your honest experience! Kerri
Very brave indeed. I have thought lots about noodle painting. I feel like may be as catastrophic as our snow painting was. But, I'm sure someday when we have nothing else planned and are losing our minds and its -30 below, we will do this. 🙂
