stART: something about stars, I can’t remember right now

August 26, 2010 Ticia 11 Comments

It’s one of THOSE days.  You know where somebody, and I’m not naming names but they’re about 3 feet high, zapped my brain.

So, we read this awesome book about the Navajo and how the stars were placed in the sky.  Hopefully by the end of this post I’ll remember the name.  Well, it seemed perfect for a craft I’d been thinking about.

Supplies: black or blue construction paper (I cut it into fourths and let them have fun with that much, fits better in the lapbook); those foil stars (you know, the GOLD star for being good)

1.  And only step.  Let your kids have a blast putting on star stickers however they like.

Princess’ summary of story: The coyote threw the stars away, while the woman was trying to put them in the sky.
Finally found the book:

I love this book, it’s probably my favorite of the different ones from this region.

A Mommy’s Adventures.  Sigh, I always have this problem with the button, it keeps making the next few sentences after it a link, I don’t know the details of why, now you know my secret reason for having it at the bottom.

And, I’ve decided to make a category called dinner time crafts.  To my mind these are crafts you can set your kids doing and not have to supervise.

geography, reading and writing Arizona, book and activity, dinner time craft, kid crafts, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah

I love dinner time crafts. Clever to make it a category.

That sounds like a great book.

I have issues with buttons – it's called laziness. I'm too lazy to find them and put them in my posts.

What a simple but fun project. The book sounds like a good one to check into for Selena.

Ok the button problem, for some reason in the coding it is missing the ending code. I had problems as well, I will email you how to fix this.

That sounds like an imaginative and fun Navajo story. My daughter likes using star stickers, too.

All three of my kiddos are at their grandparent's house this week, and I can't believe how much clearer I am thinking…

(I totally sympathize with your “brain fart”!)

oooh, I can't wait until my daughter can do crafts without supervision. Well, she's almost there because I can give her stuff at the kitchen table while I am doing other stuff in the kitchen but I can't take my eyes off of her for more than 2 minutes or she is trying to climb on the table or something. Today, I was popping popcorn and she climbed on the table (right behind me) and then decided to have an (potty) accident! Sigh…double sigh.

I've read that book, and really liked it also. Good idea to have a category called dinnertime crafts – we all need some of those on hand!

That sounds like a great book, and I love the craft you did along with it! I should get some more of those foil star stickers — they are fun! And I hope a certain 3ft tall person is done giving you a hard time. ((hugs))

Sounds like a great book and such a nice, simple but fun craft to go along with it. I can't wait to read about your dinner time crafts. It's always nice to have something to occupy little hands at this time of day!

Stickers are my secret weapon too, except that we have “sticker inflation”, and Anna is mostly interested in very fancy stickers. I have to get that book!
