Fight the summer brain drain

Stop the Summer Brain Drain with Brain Chase

Back when I was teaching public school it was a commonly accepted fact your students would come back having lost about 6 weeks worth of schooling.  You would spend the first few weeks reviewing what they’d already learned and getting them back up to speed.  Just because we homeschool doesn’t mean that changes.

{Disclosure, I was compensated for my time to write this post, and I got a really cool decoder ring I may share with my kids}

But, I’m working to change that.  This summer I have plans in place to make sure my kids don’t suffer the summer slide, it’s called Brain Chase.  I’m super excited to give this a try because I don’t have to plan a single thing.  I just get my kids logging on and they go from there.

Join us for the Brain Chase Challenge

My kids, especially Batman, are very excited about participating in this challenge.  They can’t wait to solve the clues and use the dashboard to figure out where it’s buried.

The kids and I have watched this video a couple of times, and every time we’ve watched it they’ve commented on something different.  I may have been distracted watching videos on the Brain Chase dashboard, but now I’ve watched them all so I can finish typing this post.

If you’re wondering, will this really keep my kids learning and involved over the summer?  The answer is YES!

Let’s walk through these Brain Chase icons here:

  1. Reading, there are over 7000 books for your kids to choose from to read to get credit.
  2. Writing, your kid can either submit an essay (scaled for their age) OR complete a Rosetta Stone language module (I foresee Batman wanting to try out some more Chinese).
  3. Math is completed on Kahn Academy, you score 10,000 points and you’re good to go.
  4. Bonus Challenge, these can be on the computer or using the tools they gave you when you signed up (ummm, I want my own copy of the tools, just so you know).

The Bonus Challenge is what gives you clues to finding the Sunstone.  And the sunstone is real, and if you find it first your family will be flown out to dig it up.  I really can’t wait to see where it is.

  1. Sounds super intriguing, but too expensive to seriously consider. Perhaps I will be lucky and win it 🙂 Would love to get daughter on Rosetta Stone this summer 🙂

  2. What a shame we don’t live near Boston any more…

  3. Happy Mother’s Day. I have a little gift for you over at my blog. https://homeschooljournal-bergblog.blogspot.com/2015/05/best-mom-award.html
