Make Stuffed French toast with your kids this year
My mother-in-law is an amazing cook. She is also a morning person, that means when we go to her house it is not uncommon to get fantastic breakfasts made for us. In my house breakfast consists of whatever my kids can scrounge together while I blink at the world. However, every now and then I like to spoil my family and make an amazing breakfast. This stuffed French toast recipe is one of those amazing meals that has been added into my tried and true recipes rotation.**
Ingredients for stuffed French toast
- loaf of bread, we use honey wheat bread
- eggs
- vanilla
- cinnamon
- strawberries (or a similar berry)
- cream cheese
- optional: cinnamon sugar
Prep work before you’re ready to cook this delicious stuffed French toast
- Make your French toast mix according to however you like to. You could use my mess-free French toast recipe if you want. If you don’t want that much sugar then go with the simple version and just beat up a bunch of eggs, slosh some vanilla in, and sprinkle in cinnamon. Yes, that’s the limits of my measuring skills for this recipe folks.
- Dice up your strawberries into little bitty pieces. This is a great time for your little kids to practice their knife skills as they butcher the poor strawberries. My kids love this step. Since it’s December right now and in Texas, the price of strawberries is higher, I might make them with strawberry jam this time.
How to make this amazing stuffed French toast
- Cut off the crusts on your bread. Trust me this makes it fancy because fancy sandwiches have their crusts cut off.
- Roll the bread flatter, you do this same step when making cucumber sandwiches, actually, the first two steps are the same.
- Slather cream cheese all over your bread slice. Yummy!
- Spread about 1/4 cup worth of strawberries across the top of the bread, then roll it up.
- After you’ve rolled it all up, dip it in the french toast mixture.
- If you want after you’ve dipped them roll the stuffed French toast in cinnamon sugar. We’ve also skipped this step and just given people small bowls of syrup to dip their stuffed French toast in.
- Now grill this baby, carefully rolling each side to get nicely browned.
- As a final step we will sometimes cook them in the oven at 350 for 5 minutes or so just to get them nicely browned, this also can cook a lot more at a time than our electric skillet does.
Repeat this until you’ve gone through an entire loaf of bread and a pound or so of strawberries. Oh wait, maybe that’s just what happens in my house as the swarm of locusts known as my children descend on the food.
This looks like a super difficult meal to make and looks very impressive, but as you’ve just learned this stuffed French toast is super easy to make.
(Adding in, since I scheduled this to publish) I made this on Wednesday so I could have pretty pictures of the finished product and I made a loaf and a half worth of these stuffed french toast rolls, and the kids devoured all of it. I probably should have made two loaves worth of the mess. It was so deliciously awesome I’m glad I got 5 of the stuffed French toast before the locusts descended because there was none left. None. Also, this time we used strawberry jam because in winter fresh strawberries would have been super expensive.
** In all honesty, Jeff makes amazing breakfasts. I still sit and blink at everyone, but I can make this for dinner, and my kids praise me because breakfast for dinner is awesome.

I didn’t even know that you can stuff French toast. It does look amazing!
I didn’t either until I tried this recipe, and it’s really easy to make, just a little time-consuming.
