Treasure Hunt Date Night
The other day a few of us blogging wives were talking about how hard it is to get in a good date with your husband. We’re all busy, most all of us have young kids that require babysitting, and many of us are on one income, so money is an issue.
We decided in honor of Valentine’s Day coming up we wanted to give you some suggestions for a date night or romancing your husbands, or how to make your marriage last. It’s a great idea, so Kids Activities Blog, My Nearest And Dearest, Pleasantest Thing, Play Dr Mom, Glittering Muffins, Inspired By Family Mag, Mama Miss, Life At The Zoo, Toddling Into Madness, Sense of Wonder, The Educators’ Spin On It, Little Artists, Home Learning Journey, Frogs And Snails and Puppy dog Tails, Pragmatic Mom, The Good Long Road, Mamas Like Me, Kids Stuff World , Toddler Approved and Adventures in Mommydom (that’s me), we all got together and planned something fun.
I have not actually enacted my plan yet, but I wanted to share one that I did when my husband and I were engaged, that I plan to do again as a family date, to let our kids share in the memories.

This is going to take a bit of planning and forethought, but it’s well worth it.
How I planned the Treasure Hunt Date night
1. Create a playlist to listen to, back when I first did this we didn’t have ipods, so I burned a CD of music from movies we’d seen, musicals we both enjoyed or had been to, songs we had danced to.
2. Plan the places he’ll stop at. The first time I did this he stopped at the restaurant of our first date, where he proposed, where we first met, and somewhere else that I’m trying to think of.
3. Start writing notes. I am terrible at poetry, and am generally speaking not the most poetic, but it’s fun to be a bit silly. This is from my marginally planned family treasure hunt.
3b. If you want to include small presents with each note, now’s the time to plan them. For my original one, I included printouts of all the emails we sent to each other as one present. Another was a “My First Christmas” ornament, and a third was a small dragon saying “Will you?” (that one was at the site he proposed at). I have a vague memory that I also included chocolate at one of the places because he gave me chocolate 5 pounds of chocolate on one of our first dates (I still hadn’t finished it when we got married a year later).
4. Pick a date, and plan a babysitter, or make it a family date and bring the kids. It is a great chance to discuss family memories and how you and your husband met and fell in love.
5. Plan your damsel in distress outfit. This is from a recent date night, I wanted to show off my new corset, but I’m thinking something like this.
6. Invite your husband to meet you somewhere. He will find only the note, starting him on a fun trip down memory lane, and the start of a great date.
This was a big hit when I first did it, and I’m sure that my new rendition will be just as popular. A few years ago I gave Jeff “A Year of Dates,” and that was also a big hit, so that’s another fun Valentine’s Day date night.

I personally love scavenger hunts, so this would be a fun idea.

I love that you are so romantic. We don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day on principle, we prefer every day romance 🙂
I do too, but I think Valentine’s Day and anniversaries are a great reminder to do something special. So we do something special around Valentine’s Day, but I’m not tied to it HAS to be on that day.
Besides all the good chocolate sales are on February 15!

Do you have all the clues that you did? I’d love to do one of my own I’m just not sure what to write!
The clues were specific to our memories, so I don’t think they’d help you. They were things like, “Go to where the adventure first started, where a long meal was shared over chopsticks.”
So think about the types of places you might put clues: first date, where he proposed, first met, where you got married, things like that.
