Christmas time is here and Advent season is coming. I’m joining with 24 other bloggers to bring you Ultimate Christmas posts. Yesterday this was all kicked off by Kim at Not Consumed with the Ultimate Guide to Christmas Countdowns and will be continued tomorrow by Lauren at Mama’s Reading Corner with Christmas printables. Today I’m sharing with you Advent ideas. If you stick around all the way to the bottom of the post, I’ve got a super cool giveaway!
At the time I signed up for this I was thinking how incredibly narrow this is, but the more I delved into the topic of Advent ideas the more I realized how much it overlaps with all of the other ideas because everyone celebrates Advent differently. So, my plan when I start to overlap with others is to tell you what touches on my area and then point you to the blogger in charge of that.
Make an Advent book of your own to read with Frugal Fun for Boys.
Jotham’s Journey: A Storybook for Advent – we’ll be using this for the first time this year. Last year the kids didn’t seem quite ready for this.
Bartholomew’s Passage: A Family Story for Advent – second in the Advent chapter book series
Tabitha’s Travels: A Family Story for Advent – final book in this Advent series. Depending on how my kids do with this, we’ll possibly get more in the series. I’ve heard nothing but raves about these books.
Kendra over at Preschoolers and Peace shared about The Glorious Coming, which I hadn’t heard about before. She is also sharing the Ultimate Guide to Christmas Books.
Create a scavenger hunt to find your activities from Sunhats and Wellie Boots
Read a Bible verse a day from In Lieu of Pre-school
Advent rocks to tell the story (follow the links backwards for each week) from the Golden Gleam
Cornerstone Confessions used 25 boxes to unwrap.
25 clues to the coming of Christ from Raising Arrows.
Make a homemade Advent wreath from Sunhtas and Wellie Boots
Catholic Icing today shared making a wreath from pipe cleaners and beads (and you’ll see about 5 more ideas when you get there)
Advent Tree ornaments from Frugal Fun for Boys
Mommy made (or older kid) Jesse Tree ornaments from Beauty and Bedlam
Jesse Tree using the Jesus Storybook Bible from Home with the Boys
Printable Jesse Tree ornaments from Tired Need Sleep (I’ve printed these off for my Sunday School class for the past 3 years)
Truth in the Tinsel- I picked this up last year after seeing it talked about everywhere and it is wonderful! Read to the bottom of the post for a giveaway NOW! (if you enter code:MOMMYDOM you’ll get 20% off when you buy it)
Advent/Jesse Tree preschool study– Last year I went through and created our own version of an Advent Jesse Tree study and we had a lot of fun with it and here is part 2 of that project. I had hoped to get it all organized to publish it as a freebie for ya’ll, but tempus fugit and all that……
Christmas Nature Study- This is on my to buy list, but I love that it incorporates both a Nature study (which I’m bad at) and scripture (which I feel more natural studying).
Now for three last bits of business:
1. This is a month long blog hop with many fabulous ideas. I highly recommend checking out the other ladies involved. I can’t begin to say how many wonderful ideas I’ve gotten from them just hearing about their planned posts and mining their pinterest boards. Go look at the other Christmas Blog Hop posts planned.
2. On December 7 I’m going to be co-hosting an Advent link up where YOU can link up your Christmas ideas. I’d love to add to my Ultimate Advent Ideas list with your posts, so this gives you a few weeks to put your ideas together.
3. I didn’t put anywhere near all of my Advent related posts in here because too many of them overlap with other ladies, so I’d recommend going to my Advent board for more ideas on bringing Christ into your CHRISTmas.
Now for that giveaway! Make sure to comment with your FAVORITE ADVENT TRADITION!
We like an Advent calender and a Jesse Tree.
This will be my first year to do Advent ..I am going kind of fun this year with candy and a “to do” item for my four year old… we will definately talka about the reason for the season..and I think our “to do’s” will give us a chance to do that!!
What a great list of resources. We will be doing truth in the tinsel again this year! We also added Jotham’s Journey and Everyday Emmanuel into our advent studies!
I don’t have an advent tradition, but I’ve been meaning to start one! I think we’ll start with a Jesse tree. This is definitely my year to start since Thanksgiving came early to give me more time to prep. And winning a copy of that book would help! Thanks for this post full of great ideas!
It sounds like you have your Advent all figured out. We do kick off the season with religious themes as well. I’ll try to visit other blogs too if time allows.
PS – favorite Advent tradition is probably an Advent calendar. We have three of them (I kid you not!) – one commercial chocolate, one self-made chocolate and one Playmobil. We are well covered 🙂
I can’t believe the huge list of Christmas Blog Hops you have put together. I look forward to browsing many of them.
We do an advent calendar where each day we do something; crafts, baking, field trip, candy, etc. This year I’m excited because I’m making a felt board with the nativity and characters to my 2 young ones for one of the gifts during advent.
I love our advent calendar, because it is Christ centered, not Santa centered…
Lighting our advent wreath candles.
We’re going to try reading Jotham’s Journey this year. Might have to make a calendar too.
We use Jesse Tree
We love the Adventure of Christmas!
We love the discovery, every day, of a new special part of the Story!
Last year we started the tradition of making up gift bags for our neighbors. It was really fun for the whole family and we got to bless others instead of just focusing on receiving.
Oh I like that idea! We might have to try it.
Our favorite is the nativity scene and the advent story.
We have an advent Christmas ornament set. Each little book tells the story of the birth of Christ. After we read it we hang it on our tree.
We have never celebrated Advent.
We haven’t started any traditions yet but I’m wanting to!!!
I don’t have a tradition yet, but I am thinking of starting one!
we do an Advent Tree every year and enjoy it. Thank you for a great giveaway!
Going to the special Wednesday night church services.
