Today I’m turning the blog over to the kids, and letting them tell what life is really like for a homeschooling family. Last week I gave the kids the assignment of telling you what it’s really like to homeschool.
They took to the assignment like fish to water, and I was quite amused to see each of them have very different takes on the matter. I now present them in order by age.

Superman’s theory of what it’s really like to homeschool (editted for spelling and grammar)

There are ups and downs to homeschooling. One up is game day, instead of doing most school you play games. This is a down, you don’t often see your friends unless you go to small group for church. There’s no recess because you get out early, but on the upside there’s no school work after school. Some long ups and downs are weeks of fun school, where you do crafts on what you learned last week, but there’s also weeks where you act out public school.
Superman is my child least likely to want to write, it’s not his favorite subject…
Batman’s theory of what it’s really like to homeschool (less editing for spelling and grammar)

It’s fun being homeschooled because your parents teach you. You have no homework, but you don’t have recess. Field trips happen when you are learning about something and it is nearby, not just twice a year. Sometimes you have a week of funschooling, where you do crafts and stuff. But sometimes you do school through summer. You don’t have to wake up early and you don’t have to pack a lunch when you homeschool. You also don’t have to have specific clothes for school. Finally, you sometimes get to act out battles. Homeschooling can be fun.
Princess’ theory of what homeschooling is really like

Homeschooling is not as easy as most people think, in fact it is pretty hard sometimes. One good fact is you don’t have to wake up early, which is a good thing. Another one is you can be up a grade like me!
If you’re wondering what to use, I’d suggest Math-U-See for math. Christian homeschoolers, I’d suggest for history the Mystery of History* and for science Christian Kids Explore*!
For writing I’d suggest WITS, and for typing if you only have one kid try TypeKids.Com, but if you have more kids try Typing Instructor for Kids Platinum 5*. This will help you get started in your school work.
Mom’s comments on the homeschooling assignment
It’s funny how a good night’s sleep changes your perspective. Last night I read these papers and in my rather exhausted state was thinking, “These are all horrible, and I’m failing as a teacher.” This morning I sat down with them, and there were only a few edits to make. So Moms, the next time you are sure you’re failing as a homeschooling Mom, take a step back, take some time away, maybe get a night’s sleep, then look on it in the morning. You’l be surprised to see it’s much better than you thought, which is pretty much what Jeff told me last night. So, I’ll also add in, listen to your husbands, they usually have a pretty good bead on things.

On Monday this will be linked up with Helping Moms blog (not live until Monday 11/2)
