Wyoming State Study

Sometimes as I research different states I find some cool little things I didn’t know about. For instance, I didn’t know about Esther Morris before I started researching our Wyoming state study for our geography lessons. With that being said, there is not super a lot I found about Wyoming to study.

Our Wyoming Booklist

Wyoming booklist

Huh, as I was typing up my booklist, I realized I forgot to include Yellowstone in the study originally because it’s in three states, and I accidentally put our study of Old Faithful in Montana rather than Wyoming…. Sigh, that was a foolish mistake. That means I’m going to put some of the books I have on my Montana booklist also no this booklist so I can get that Old Faithful into the correct place, and because Yellowstone National park is such a big deal for these states.

  • A Young Shepherd– It looks like this book is out of print, but a large part of Wyoming is ranches, so this particular book is a good peek into that world
  • I Could do That: Esther Morris gets Women the Vote– As I mentioned, I learned about Esther Morris because of this study and how she got women the vote in Wyoming in 1869, a good long time before women got the vote in the whole country
  • Path of the Pronghorn– Another book that is now out of print, which if you’re not local to me and able to get this from the library, then find another book about Pronghorn
  • The Great Antler Auction– It probably tells you a bit about how forgettable this story is that I had to look up the story again, but it looks like I would really like the story, it’s all about how the boy scouts gather up the antlers every year and sell them to raise money to feed the elk, which is the type of story I LOVE, but I don’t remember it
  • When Esther Morris headed West: women, Wyoming, and the right to vote– Our librarian must have really liked Esther Morris, or someone did a report on her and requested lots of books, because we had two fun books about her
  • Wyoming-And as per usual I picked up a generic book about Wyoming to look over
  • Family Pack– A neat story about a wolf family (since I focused on wolves more in our Montana unit study, I just read the book
  • Eat like a Bear– I love collage artwork when it’s done well, and this book did that
  • The Wolves are Back– There’s an amazing short film on this subject and I LOVE both of these, and it’s amazing how much introducing the wovles back into Yellowstone changed the way the park looks
  • Yellowstone– A nice quick read to introduce this famous park
  • Yellowstone National Park– Another out of print book that most libraries have some kind of book like this, and it does a great overview of the park for older elementary kids

Wyoming State Study

Soooo…… I’ve had to go in and move around some stuff from where I originally glued it in my notebook when I realized I put Yellowstone in the wrong state.

Yes, I am rather annoyed with myself.

But, we had our usual United States Notebooking pages.

Wyoming notebooking pages

Okay, so years and years ago way back when I first started blogging and my kids were in preschool I made animal lapbooking sets for the state animal of each state we studied. With Wyoming, I brought that idea back because so much of who they are is tied up in their wildlife and Yellowstone park.

On these pages:

Pronghorn Antelope minibook- my kids were amused because they didn’t remember putting together loads of these books

And a second video on YouTube about her:

Esther Morris- she was a fascinating person to learn about

Old Faithful experiment– Sigh, the experiment that went so horribly wrong

The other side of the state notebooking pages.

Black bear- like I said, my kids found this quite hilarious to put together

My Great Antler Design-I don’t know why I didn’t think of adding videos like this in earlier, but this is a great example of what happens with the boy scouts collecting all these antlers

Life As a Shepherd- walking through this book and it was fun to talk about their days as compared to our days

And that’s it. It’s not super interesting or exciting, but we had fun with it.
